Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

I think you have to do the same with the materials, all rather tedious really.

You can either do that or ask them to send the survey in a simple text file showing the xyz coordinates and then you could use Didier's other script: cloud_v6.rb to create a mesh from the data file itself.

Also, Jim Foltz made a plugin that "Plots the path of the Sun usinng Construction Points." It may be useful if you are thinking about such things.

Your network might be the culprit too, if you are printing the file to a network drive. You might try printing to the desktop or some other local folder and see how it goes. I often get corrupt image files when exporting to a network location, and they usually are OK when exported to a folder on my desktop. I am also suspecting the network for the similarly truncated PDFs (with some lines and texts missing) we recently got when printing to PDF from AutoCad with Adobe Acrobat, and that printed perfectly when repeated another day. Just suggestions Anssi

@alan fraser said: You can solve such problems In Model by exploding the group then immediately r-clicking and grouping again while all the geometry is still selected. Yes Alan, you can but there are major disadvantages. Texture as well as layers are inherited by unpainted entities resp. layer0-entities (default settings) in a group (or component) when exploding that group (or C). As for texture, you might get a lot of unwanted changes that you need to fix later. [all faces (both sides) AND edges one level down are now painted!!!] As for geometry, it is against Googles advise to have primary entities in another layer than layer0. But that is exactly what happens when you explode and regroup. (ungrouped entities in different layer(s) other than layer0) %(#0000FF)[The remedy is: for groups: right click > select “Make Component” > right click > select “Scale Definition” for components: right click > select “Make Unique” > right click > select “Scale Definition” Now only the texture scale has changed back to normal in both cases.] Wo3Dan

If im understnading you correctly, you can just select all the lines you want to hide then right click one of them->soften/smooth. Youll then need to play about with the slider untill youve softened all the lines.

I think that worst than having to reorganize the toolbar, as well as the icons, is to have to remember where they were in the first place. So once I have all my menus and toolbars in place I do a print screen of sketchup and save the image somewhere I can refer back once sketchup has bugger up. I know this is not ideal, but it may save you a couple of minutes. Let me know if someone come up with a definite solution. Cheers

Hi Didier and shannon, i have found that the attributes reporter wont take attributes from components unless you open the component and then select then the instance. It would be good if you could select the entire model and then get a report on the attributes. Another thing that would be really good would be: name the attribute by material and a seperate field for the supplier of the material. That way when the material is exported it could be grouped into suppliers. Do you think this can be done didier?

I have heard about it but I do not know much about that issue, I personally try not use textures larger than 512 x 512 in SU.

IES is a b@stard to use. I worked with some consultants who modelled the environmental performance of one of my buildings with it. There are big problems with creating the building model though. Hopefully this plugin gives them a better way of doing that. IES is also very slow in its analysis. AFAIK it is a tool aimed at engineers rather than architects and requires entry of some quite technical data, as it takes account of the proposed heating systems and lots of HVAC stuff. The consultants I worked with have stopped using IES and replaced it with a system called Hevacomp. Hevacomp has been bought by Bentley, and is based on the EnergyPlus analysis engine, albeit heavily modified. I have tried the EnergyPlus SketchUp beta. It kind of works, but this sort of thing isn't easy. I don't think IES is going to be your thing if you want to do energy analysis with SU. I would be really interested to hear anyone else's views though. [Edit: I just noticed that there is a free application called VE-Ware on the IES site which works with both the SketchUp and Revit plugins. Something to try out next week I think...]

Hi Thom, Have you tried Karpo yet? I'm not sure about the results but there might be a format combination that works for you.

Work-around: Paste in place a copy of the target mesh into another Sketchup session. Paste the drape lines into the same session above. Create as layer called "drape" and make it active. Drape the lines onto the copy of the target mesh. Open the target mesh group, select a draped line and right-click > select all on same layer. Group, then copy the draped lines and paste in place into the original file. If find that by isolating the target mesh in this way also speeds up the slow drape operation considerably.
