Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

@bmccall17 said: ...Now, how does it affect multiple images? Does this only apply to the image face that I am working with? It will always scale the whole context you arte in. Like Chris says (as he's just beaten me); when you are NOT in a group (i.e. in the "whole model"), the whole model will be scaled. If you only want to scale certain objects, group them first > edit > and scale it inside their editing context. It will only scale whatever is inside the group/component.

SU 7 .kmz should be the same as SU 6 .kmz, as it is the google earth format, which hasnt changed recently, as far as im aware. Another thought: might be worth trying exporting as .3ds or some other format, unless you need .kmz to preserve some aspect of the file.

@unknownuser said: Does your above mentioned dxf file arrive as a 3d entity when you use the version 12 export, when exported in plan view? Do you have to export using an isometric view? Yes, always as a 3d entity, independent of view. @unknownuser said: although I first thought that having each wall for instance as an individual component a pain, Once I have the walls on their own layer, I usaully explode them all and reform them all into one new group, leaving the windows in their own individual groups/components. Same with the entities that form the roof...explode em and reform into a single group

if your aim is straight SketchUp export with edges switched on, it makes sense to keep the detail reasonably low (set yourself a limit of e.g. 5cm and never draw anything smaller than that, if possible). and then, as the others said, keep the same level of detail throughout the whole model. if you go for rendered images, as Gaieus said, the more detail the better, because you won't have any lines and therefore you won't have the problem of too many lines creating one dark mess in the distance. silver_shadow just mentioned his 2 million polygons model. I guess he referred to his 'eye candy 2' model. thats a perfect example, how high detail is beneficial for rendering

Thanks David, I have made the change to the camera angle. I guess it is one of those things that when you work on it long enough I know what is what but others may not. Thanks. As far as the explanation (or idea) I am not sure if that is it, only due to the fact that the same thing happened when a shot was taken from the other side of the glass wall looking in. The tile in front of the wall was messed up there as well. Once I turned off "use maximum texture size" this bug went away. I only turned that on since I had heard it may help the overall quality of exported images. As I know know that is not always the case. Scott

Thanks Dan, many of us are suffering with the compression of YT and any kind of valuable info about how and what to set up in the video to minimize this is always welcome.

@unknownuser said: I don't know if i am on target with your question but the new Smustard profile builder and the dynamic component feature seem to give that sort of function. Dynamic components can be useful for stretchable components. For instance if you want to make an arbitrary length piping run with 20 foot pipe sections, and fittings between settings, then you can do the whole thing with one component. But you still have to place the component in the first place and stretch it to the desired size, and if your fittings have an inside (e.g. connection to wall) then you also have to align the component properly depending on whether you are placing in on the inside or outside of a wll. I'll have to take a look at profile builder and see what it does.

Yes, that is the problem Chris. I wonder whether the component origin/axis is set up by the 3ds exporter or by the SU importer? One workaround may be a simple script that explodes and remakes each component one at a time. C'mon Thom, there's a challenge for you

@sorgesu said: Thank you!! If I can just add my two bob's worth hopefully answering your question about mac image editors - if you set your Sketchup preferences (Applications - applications for editing image files - /Applications/iPhoto.app), as mentioned; and then set your iPhoto preferences (General - edit photo - full screen) you end up in the iPhoto editor. This is an image editor for photos more than anything else (and not a bad one) but at least it will show the functioning of the in-Sketchup edit texture image process. Cheers Nick

@jean lemire said: Hi Jim, hi Gaieus, hi folks. ...... Sometimes, I would like to able to enter a d for the diameter but now it is not possible. Maybe that could be suggested for SU 8......... Jean, instead of 2000d for a diam. to be 2000mm just enter 2000/2 and [Enter] (units can't be included with this option though, just figures) The result will be R=2000/2mm =1000mm meaning the diameter will be 2000mm. PC only? or Mac too. Wo3Dan

the thing is that i should only need to have the model opened in 3ds max (with the correct poly values and the such) and then export it to W3D. will fxb open/import in 3ds?

The method David describes is a good that I've used too when I've had lots of animations to make and didn't want to muck up my model. The idea is to treat the whole model as a component in a blank model. So save your main model and close it. Then open a blank model. File>Import and import your model file. Place it somewhere in the blank model. Now set up your animation scenes. Now if you make changes to your original model file, they do not get updated automatically in the animation file. But you can reload the model manually. So in the animation file, right click on the model (which is still a single large component) and choose "reload" and then choose your model again. It will load in the newly modified version in the exact same spot. Then repeat for all animations. For me it depends what my other animations are though. If I have 4 animations that are identical camera locations but different styles (pure white and shadows with no lines, pure color no lines, pure white with lines and no shadows, inverted fog to act as a z-depth layer). I will set up all camera scenes to only store the camera location and not thet style or shadow info. Then I make 4 scenes that only store style and shadow info. These scenes do not get included in the animation. But it makes it easy to export my animation in a different style over and over until I get all the layers of animation I want. So for me it always depends on what I am trying to export. Hope that helps, Chris
