BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

Thank you David, I accept what you say. I will try single columns. The dividers can be a waste of valuable space but when used with 2 columns wide they can be useful for grouping commands IMO. Kind regards, Andrew

You can create your own reports by editing the example code found here http://www.sketchup.com/intl/en/developer/docs/tutorial_attrreporting I mentioned it before [anchor= goto=http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=79&t=50820#p460251:2d0zzw5x]here[/anchor:2d0zzw5x] john

@krisidious said: Not sure... I don't have it. Did you have pro and then the trial ran out? Seems like you wouldn't have had enough time for your trial to run out though. You might try installing with the internet disabled. Just a thought. That would be pretty irritating and would push a bunch of people out of the range of Sketchup and that would be a mistake IMHO. Actually I installed it without being connected to the internet. I should do the otherwise now, hehe, installing it while my net is still active. @jason_maranto said: I had the same issue when I installed using my removable USB wireless adapter -- if I removed the adapter I would get the "SketchUp cannot start due to a licensing error" message. What I found to be true in my case was I needed some type of network hardware active in order to start SketchUp -- but did not need to be actually connected to the internet. Something to do with the SketchUp license being tied to that particular machine as identified via a MAC address. In my case I had some Ethernet ports on my computer that I usually keep disabled (because they are not connected to anything) -- by enabling them and re-licensing SketchUp I was able to remove the USB wireless adapter and still start SketchUp (because the Ethernet ports supply the needed MAC address, even though they are not connected to anything). Best, Jason. You are saying really technical stuff to me. Please explain step by step what you did.

Try changing the OpenGL setting for Hardware Acceleration. You may have to quit and restart SketchUp after that.

thanks again for the replies. no problems with "hijacking this thread". I myself found the automatically created backups lil bit useless. my macbook pro only have 256GB ssd hard disk. it definitely takes up space. my dilema is I dont think getting a better computer is right for me yet. updating to mac pro is too pricey. i love macs though. updating to custom built pc or hp z workstations or any high end pcs are still pricey based on the minimal or low demand 3d interior rendering jobs im doing.

@blastfurnace said: everything I draw in SU2015 looks jagged to me...I have changed the openGL settings but no luck... The timing of your post is funny. I noticed today something similar while rotating a scene, I see some jaggies (like edges that are fragmented in several large parts). I already had a look at my opengl settings (gtx560ti) and was already google-ing if some of the gfx card settings could be better but haven't found anything useful yet. any suggestions anyone??

seems like she has 10.7 or lower which is not supported on v2015... if the hardware or circumstance forbids an OS update then SU v2014 or lower is the only option... in either case, contact Trimble citing OS incompatibility and ask for a 2014 pro license in exchange... she'll have 12 months to upgrade for free if needs be... john

@aceoftrades said: I am looking for a way to have Sketchup calculate the linear footage of crown molding, toe kick, etc in kitchen models I make and include in Generate Report. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Generate Report just prints out the attributes you have attached to Components in your model, it does not do math. To report calculated values such as summed lengths of Components that are labelled a particular way, you will need to create a custom Ruby script. There is info about how to do so using attributes here: http://www.sketchup.com/intl/en/developer/docs/tutorial_attrreporting Alternatively, you could generate a report in spreadsheet form and do your own calculations there. You could also get a spreadsheet from the CutList plugin. Or, as Kris points out, there are several kitchen design extensions/plugins that might do the work for you. There are two aspects that might be downsides depending on your desires: many of them are not free, and you usually have to do the entire project within their system.

I took SU2015 as an opportunity to house clean as I have always ctrl+c copied plugins from one version to the next and the same with my shortcuts. I manually reinstalled all of my favorite plugins and tossed the old ones that never really used. Then I ran this script in the ruby console and went through all of my shortcuts. Some I knew, some I had no idea. UI.messagebox(Sketchup.get_shortcuts.join("\n"), MB_MULTILINE)

Thanks TIG. Length snapping was off. I was working in a normal Architectural scale, not micro small objects.I realize one can only zoom in so far. I have experienced problems in older versions, sometimes really large, complex models that caused similar issues. My best solution was to save file. Then reopen. No problem after that. Perhaps a plugin I used caused the strange behavior. Thanks for the advice and tips.

Actually, redefining thumbnail on save has an effect on performance. If you have autosave setup, it's remaking a thumbnail every time it saves. On some systems, probably lower ones, it can slow down workflow when autosave initializes.

@ntxdave said: I have tried several times and continually get the error message I previously showed. Anyone have any idea about what I might be doing wrong? If I get this to work and I have my own classifications, is there a way to provide a drop down list of the classification categories so that I can just select the one the component belongs to? Not exactly how sure I am that this really accomplishes anything for me though. Exactly. If you create your own classification schema, it will allow you to assign your components as different "object types" from a list. In addition to that, once an object type is assigned, you can then set attribute values according to which object type you assigned. For example, you might have several object types in your classification schema: window, door, roof, wall, floor. The window object type, for example, might have the following attributes available: Manufacturer, model number, R-value, style, etc. So there's two levels of information: Tag it as a specific object type, then assign attributes according to the object type. So once you tag your window component as a "window object", you can then go to the Component Options window and set values for each of the attributes. The problem right now, as I see it, is the default schema is IFC2x3, which is utterly confusing for someone who doesn't know what IFC is. And it's not easy for the average person to learn how to create their own schema. Hopefully a solution is made to simplify the creation of custom classification schema. The advantage of adding this data, is that in LayOut 2015, the label tool can now READ that data from your viewports and display it in your LayOut documents. I'm sure we'll be seeing some plugins pop up for SketchUp that will create some nice reports of classification data as well.
