BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

To make the R segment follow a curve in the Z plane, you can use the Follow Me tool in SketchUp. Here's how: Draw a line from point A to point P to create segment R. Draw a curve in the Z plane (curve H) that the R segment should follow. Use the Follow Me tool by selecting the R segment and clicking the Follow Me button in the toolbar. Click on the H curve so that the R segment follows the curve. Once the R segment follows the curve, use the Face Intersect tool to create a clear intersection between the R segment and the curve. Using the Follow Me tool, you can make the R segment follow any path or curve in the Z plane. Follow Me Tool Examples in SketchUp - The SketchUp Essentials #39 regards web designer WorkTime company

@tig said: You need to do Extension Warehouse licensing through SketchUp. But for SketchUcation Licensing you can manage [release/activate] your licenses with the dialog that opens from the MyLicenses item in the Extensions > SketchUcation submenu You need the latest version of SketchUcation tools and the extensions/libs etc installing beforehand and restart SketchUp to sync thing, before trying to do any license management. Splendid, thank you very much TIG. In this case there is a huge advantage, I see using SketchUcation resources over Extension Warehouse. I thought only a few extensions could be unlicencing via Sketchucation Tool as suggested. Once more many thanks TIG

You should be able to make the adjustment in the control panel for your graphics card whatever that is.

@joe wood said: I don't remember resizing anything in this model but is that what I did? You must have because the change in size is not uniform. Walls are 79.6% and posts are 81.6%. That suggests human intervention. Or your workshop has sentient sawdust....

@hatrack said: The model started with a plan imported from CAD and was over 400 meters from the axes origin. I moved it to the origin, and the display issue is gone. This definitely an issue. Not sure where it comes from but OpenGL gets confused. @hatrack said: I tried temporarily moving the axes to the model, but the display issue recurred. The axes don't determine the location of the origin. The origin is a fixed point in the model space. By default the axes are placed at the origin. @hatrack said: So, for now, I'm marking its original location with a few lines, and even though there's now a little geometry in the distance, the model is displaying well. Keep an eye on that, though. That geometry might cause you issues, particularly with Zoom Extents. My inclination would be to identify the coordinates of that distant point and write them down for later reference. YOu can always move the model back to that point later if you must.

The county's GIS department might have LIDAR or other terrain data. It depends on how much resolution you need, though. It also depends on how fresh the data needs to be. It's possible to get data points from an on-the-ground survey and import that insto SketchUP as a point cloud. Then use the Sandbox Tools or TopShaper to generate the terrain geometry.

@tig said: Lately gmail and its derivatives have blocked most kinds of 'compressed files'... So RBZ, Layout, SKM files and possibly others can't be attached to emails [e.g. ZIP]. Even if you use another suffix and tell the recipient to rename it receipt, it gets spotted ! The 'header' is read of every attached file. Perhaps SKP files are now subject to similar draconian measures ?? Use DropBox or something similar... Well that's weird as I just sent my yahoo account a zipped skp file. Something else must be going on then. [image: Screenshot-1.jpg]

SketchUp is not geared towards that level of intricacy. Not impossible just labour intensive, especially for furniture. I still think texturing is the way to go. If it's for presentation then its more visual than accurate.
