Convert Nested Components into Groups
-
hi all - I have a question
is there any tool which can convert all or selected nested subcomponents, included in a component down into groups?
I need to create some variants of a big model - in it it gets too complicated despite "make unique" because the included subcomponents still keep their original instances information and therefore I am doing too many mistakes
( I have fallen into this component trap I set for myself so many times and have not yet attained the evolutionary stage of learning from my mistakes )

Make All Unique by honoluludesktop is what I use for years.
Just search unique and install this...

That plugin makes the components unique, doesn't create plain groups.. isn't it?
If you want them to be converted into plain groups, you can simply group the geometry which is inside each component and then explode the components, so you will be left with actual groups. -
Rich!
Thanks Pnixia, that was exactly my dilemma - it was such a large number of different window components which constantly interfered with each other through their interaction of similar sub-components and I wanted to avoid clicking through all of them at all costs.
If the model had been smaller, I would have chosen your approach... -

It's debatable. What came first the group or the component?

You can explode hundreds of components and if the geometry isn't touching you can use Loose to Groups to make everything individual groups, then purge your component list.

Just edit in a new file and paste it back if needed
