Make it a component and save it to a component collection, then select and place it from the component panel whenever you need it.

Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

Remus, thank you - I've been blind finding the keyboard shortcut from that list. Abot my second question, I'll post it in the Ruby Forum. Just to explain what I mean with similar faces selection: in Wings 3D, the subdivision modeler, by selecting similiar faces, the program let me select all faces with the some shape and area (not really the some, but with a tolerance that tends to zero. That's why it's named select similar, instead identical - in some complex models it selects unexpected faces sometimes). The selection cares about the bounding geometry too. Here a couple of screenshots to explain it better: the red highlighted faces are selected. This works with the edges too. This saves a lot of time, when editing complex geometries: in sketchup I had to select manually the faces with ctrl + left-click. [image: QVKd_wings3D-select-similar.jpg]

Anssi, I think the question is regarding exporters available in SU Pro and not SU Free. Emulating existing SU functionality that would normally only be available in the Pro version and making it available for Free users. There have been a few functions emulated for Free that is normally only available in Pro, another (apart from those already mentioned) is the ability to set location and set the North angle.

Yep.... it is called layers_materials.rb - http://www.crai.archi.fr/RubyLibraryDepot/Ruby/en_ren_page.htm ...... although it will pick random colors to be applied to the layered geometry. If one wanted to match the colors that are in the layer system, one will have to do it manually. It is a nice script and could be the solution for you. CMD

Attach the model (and the image file separately as well) so that we can look intio it - if possible.

@remus said: wow, 96 hours is a long time I cant help but wonder what the hell SU was doing all that time... Probably dropped by the local Corner Bar for a couple of drinks in the meanwhile... Anyway, impressive for sure. Now comes the modeling (and stamping) part!

Thanks Juju. Now I know it is a bug too. I used Quicktime Pro and erased the frames in quetion. In fact, my last animation had so many "flashes" that I quit SU, restarted my machine while tossing all chaches and exported it anew. Now I was only left with the flahes at the exact exact transition point which where then easy to erase w/out too much damage to the animation. Truth to be told, I keep pondering if I should put money into my SketchUp skills with all the drawbacks, known bugs and limitations. Maybe I rather pay for tutoring in an established 3D programm like C4D or something. I still can construct in SU but do animations and rendering in C4D. Any suggestions anybody? Thanks Wolf

OK, I've now got the Subdevide-Smooth tools. It will take me a little while to learn the moves, but this is real progress. Once I get closer to a final model for Stonehenge, I'll start a new thread to let you know how it's going. Thanks to you all for your help. Solo, Isn't it the middle of the night in Dallas? Tom

@unknownuser said: When I select File>Export>2D Drawing and select the DWG file type, the DWG file origin is placed at the center point of my current view in SU. There's the problem then - I exported it in parallell projection, and it is, as shown earlier a 2D shape. Well, well. I'll go over to the CNC-guys and program the router directly instead, at least for now. Next time I'll guess I'll better come up with a sollution Thanks everyone, for your input and everything! // Olle

Kriscidious's tutorials are good; and ultimately you will need some very good model organization: Make your floor plan a component. What you include in that component depends on the flexibility you want/need. You can Copy that floor plan component off to the side and edit it, after your edits are finished, erase it, your plan in the house will be changed as long as you didn't select "make unique". there are other ways too but this technique is consistent for me.

Thanks for that Irv. I like the idea of having the joint as a separate component.

If you are not familiar with ruby scripting, don't bother with the ruby console (actually it's under the Window menu). It is used for entering special scripts there but who does not know what to enter, should practically leave it alone... There are "ready to use" ruby scripts (plugins) made by scripters and they add fantastic extra abilities to SU. Normally they are just plain text files with an *.rb extension which you need to download into the Plugins folder of your SU application. They appear in various menu items (although many of them are only in the "Plugins menu". Visit or Ruby Forum somewhere at the bottom-ish of the Board Index to see a bunch of them.

there are scripts that correct that problem. one is ExtendCloseLines and it can be obtained from smustard.com. there may be free ones as well. check it out here.
