Thanks for pointing up this Helix along curve plugin! This does exactly what I was trying to do. Also in general this seems to be really great plugin. Hopefully this functionality will be added to some of the offset plugins if there are more people benefiting this.

Do you not have the built in plugin bar "walk through"? It does this. Perhaps it's a Pro feature. I thought it was native to the free version though. If you find it.
