Could you show us what you're working on? Is it very small? Are you using high segment counts on the circles and ovals?

I am surprised the Nvidia is giving trouble. In the past I have only had troubles with ATI cards. If it helps I am currently using the Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti with no issues what so ever running Windows 7/64.

Thanks for the tips. I ended up just reinstalling the program and it seems to have sorted the problem out. Strange that it started happening though... It was stalling and quitting even if I flipped a single box. It was sketchup 8.0.4810.

@simon le bon said: Thank you Guys for your advices in this issue. It appears also to me that the problem don't come from SU itself but that SU just reveals. yes, in most cases 3D application will show you what kind of graphic adapter you have on board. that's some sort of ways to test your graphic adapter capabilities actually. especially when you are buying or upgrading your pc. i can see that you are using ATI. good luck with your problem solving, Simon.

Nothing other than my cursor changes to a gray arrow instead of black and the program stop responding to any mouse or keyboard action, until I hit esc. Task manager claims sketchup is responding the whole time. After I hit esc. the program comes back to life.

[image: yKv1_pic_0079.jpg] [image: wRzs_pic_0080.jpg] Vertial bar size has to match. That's what I think. Also earlier sketchup horz toolbar can't wrap and if you do you get strange results. Make sure sketchup window is size right. I just noties that the latist SU 8 m2 works just find for wraping. Maybe it's a greyout condition.

' **Weld**' has nothing to do with ' Group'. In Sketchup there are Edges [aka 'lines'] - sometimes these are made 'bound' into 'Curves' - typically 'Arcs', or a fully looped 'Arc' which is then called a 'Circle'. However, any collection of Edges bound end-to-end can become a 'Curve'. A Curve is identified by the way it extrudes with PushPull into a form with 'smoothed' arises. There are some specific scripts to make special 'Curves' like Beziers... A long time ago Rick Wilson made a tool that takes a collection of such Edges and makes a Curve out of them [if it can]. It is called **weld.rb**. It is installed as a script that you put into the Plugins folder. On restart you get the tool 'Weld' that will make preselected Edges into a Curve... Many tools require Curves to be selected for them to work - if these are not 'out-of-the-box' Arcs then you need to ' weld' them - e.g. Chris Fullmer's 'ShapeBender' or many of my 'EEby...' tools... Oh, yeah... and weld.rb is freely available from http://www.Smustard.com [use Find > weld] ... An indispensable tool for any serious Sketchupper...

@gaieus said: What video card do you have? Have you tried updating its driver? It's not a display issue. I can be in a model previously made and do push pull on any EXISTING face. If I do a new face I cannot do push pull on it. It acts like a move tool and the whole face, polylines and all just move up / down / sideways. And I have updated both video and mouse drivers. I sent the model to a friend and he has no problem doing push pull on a face I can't. I have the first version of 8 on a laptop and I can work it just fine on that. My computer was shutdown when we had a power loss and that may have corrupted the file but I don't think this is it. I have re-installed 8 to no avail. There must be some common issue with all the versions I have becuae all my versions, V6, V7, and V8 act the same way.

A fix that requires a full reinstall of my operating system is a bit draconian. But, yeah, I suppose I asked for that. I come from a unix background and generally prefer case sensitive file systems. Historically they are slightly faster (You didn't have to strip off the lower case bit for each character.) but with today's cpu's that's probably not measureable. Certainly as a web writer, I have to be aware of case all the time since the bulk of web servers run Apache on Linux.

SketchUp, by default, will only display images at 1024 pixel resolution. You can set it to use maximum texture size under Window > Prefrences > OpenGL settings but it will still be max. 2048 pixels this way, too. Anything larger is still resampled.

Okay, so the problem is the number of plugins. What happens, inside SU, when there are too many plugins, that causes the loss of functions? I certainly don't need to know the technical answer to that, but the Google software engineers should know. And if they do, is there some insurmountable reason why they can't fix it?

I just noticed that I don't even have to load a model. Sometimes it's enough that I just draw the first line, or move the camera a bit and it jams up again.

You have some unneeded coplanar [hidden?] edges in the facets. Use an 'erase_coplanar_edges' tools on them first ?

Look like a over loaded gray out condition of use of memory, alot of features disapper when memory hits limits Make two copy skeckup 8 one with no plugins (in plugin folder) for the layout, and the other (with plugins) for editing objects. (to layout) Start the object sketchup first, Then open layout sketchup. Do your work: When done close layout sketchup first, Then close object sketchup last also A Fix for some startup Sketchup splats: Clean out the reg of google sketchup 8 toolbars useing registry editor and wordpad then open only the plugins you need. You may had a 1000 listed witch loads to ram memory evey time it loads often cause sketchup to splat. (hint) keep a copy of of google sketchup 8 reg save to fix problems later

It's remembered with the SKP so add it to your normal template and new SKPs should then take those settings...

thanks for your reply Tig, I suspect you are right about it being a Windows 7 problem. I am writing to a server but I don't understand why it is only happening with Sketchup. I will continue to monitor it.

Hi I have been having the same issues with a few of my models too. I purged all custom textures from one model and the issues seem to have disappeared for now. I had also fiddle with the openGL settings, turned them all off, restarted, turned them all on, restarted again. So something worked somewhere but if anyone knows exactly whats going i would love know... somehow I feel the problem will be back. D

HUm... Strange. I cannot reproduce that. Have you tried selecting the objects and then checking entity info if the count is right ? Is Hardware acceleration checked in Preferences - OpenGL ?

@unclemonkey said: ......though as far as I can see, the gap is way smaller than the difference in dimensions indicates..... The gap that Jim noticed is (only) 1mm, exactly the difference between the overall length and the sum of the 2*160+inner wall length. It's not way smaller. @driven said: First thing I spotted was you had profiles set to 2, which can give minor discrepancies at 0.000....etc, as SU can snap to either side of your 'thick line'. I had to check this out so I set profiles to 20. It made no difference at all to accurately reproduce UncleMonkey's wall, incuding the gap and all its dimensions. I don't think profile thickness has to do with accurate modeling. Maybe UncleMonkey had length snap ON and set to something like 1mm? Jeff is right. If an edge is in a drawing plane (in plane with two axes or parallel to that plane) you'll be able to get 3 different dimensions in that plane. One of them being the 'Perpendicular' one reading the edge length. The other two in the drawing plane are along both axes of that plane.
