That is strange. I use 64bit Win7/8 and have not had such issues... Perhaps you got some files stuck in VirtualStore? (You can use this plugin to check: http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=48399) Perhaps updating drivers help?

@gaieus said: Try Preferences > Workspace > reset workspace. It will reset all your SU dialogs but you may be lucky to get the shadows back this way, too. Thank you for that. My Entity Info window would not open completely, and I was unable to read the definition line. After being baffled for 2 days, I took your advice, reset the Workspace, and all was good again. Thank you for your 2011 answer as we approach 2013...

@gaieus said: The reason they ask for the exact steps (especially if you can reproduce the error) is that this way they can identify the bug (if there is any) which causes it. There is actually a lot going on under the hood and only a few errors generate a popup like this. @desertraven said: Also does anyone know how to actually contact Google support? ? ? If it's about the bug issue, here is the trouble shooter: http://support.google.com/sketchup/bin/static.py?hl=en&ts=1678675&page=ts.cs Ha ha all they had to do is produce some errors of their own, most issues are not new but never corrected. This particular pop up window is completely useless! Just fix what you guys know is wrong and we'll all be good.

@slbaumgartner said: Here's another one: I added some plugins' tools to the main toolbar using View->Customize Toolbar... Works great, but when SketchUp starts, these are missing from the toolbar on the blank window SU opens by default. If I open a window on an existing file or open another new window using the File menu, they reappear. Seems to me this must be a sequencing problem: most likely SU creates the default window before it has loaded the plugins. Not a big deal, but a minor annoyance. Steve long time bug.. multiple requests to have it fixed.. nada.. meh..

FWIW, I'm going to download it and install it to see what happens for me. If it was working and then quit, I doubt it's a bug in Sketchup. I'll let you know what I get. Edit to add: I've downloaded and install the program. It seems to work just fine with no crashing. Have you recently installed any other programs (maybe not SU related) that might have monkeyed with the DLLs?

It's the old Style Menu issue (revisited after upgrade). Easily, if not obviously, fixed and for the record; Window -> Styles -> Edit [tab]-> Match Photo sliders (may need to scroll down) -> Foreground Photo (tick box on). For some reason, I'm not wired to see Geolocations terrain display issues as Style problems!

First, let me thank Dave, Thomas and TIG for their willingness to investigate and provide insight. And while they they could not provide the Magic Bullet solution I was hoping for, the information they provided turned out to be very helpful. Eventually I was successful at draping the overlay of the parking layout onto the cad created ground model. I will briefly explain the "fix" for those who might find themselves in the same situation. The cad ground model was created by placement of shot points relative to a properly scaled jpg. satellite view of the property that included superimposed grid lines at 5' increments. The parking overlay was created in sketchup, exported to my cad program, and superimposed over the ground model. My thought was to assign shot points at locations where the jpg grid lines crossed over lines in the parking overlay so as to minimize the number of faces when exported back to sketchup. Big mistake. Location errors that occurred from importing and exporting between the programs is what made for all those short short lines segments. When I went back and moved all of the shot points into free space, (that is not on or near a parking overlay line), the problem was solved. Drape worked without problem with this slightly modified ground model. Thanks again, would not have figured it out without your assistance. Karl.

Does that mean you've solved your problem? Why don't you edit your profile and add your OS and SketchUp version?

SketchUp is a 32bit application - it has therefore limitations to how much memory it can address. If you're on 32bit Windows, or an older SU version, then you can address only 2GB. If you have recent SketchUp 8 and 64bit OS then you can address 4GB. I've had some very large models - but I've never had anything consume 1.5GB!! o_O How many faces and edges does your model contain? I've only ever seen SU use that much when I was rendering with V-Ray. And that was then really V-Ray using the memory.

Sometimes you are stuck with a large model and can't reduce the dimensions of it, especially when modeling cities. Try hitting zoom extents, then re zoom back in. Zoom extents re defines the near and far clipping planes and often helps solve the problem for a while.

Sorry. I should have provided more info. I have a large city model that I'm working on. I have layers, I'm purging unused, and I'm keeping texture sizes down. There is a lot of texture however, and the model is quite large. When SketchUp crashes, an error message comes up that says: "SketchUp has crashed unexpectedly. See report for more details." The reason the file is so large is probably geometry. Thanks, Avraham

Well I made a mistake, it is the 0.skb file that has the error message. However TIG I think you have the answer, I do use a USB drive to save my models, since I work at the house and on the road. Maybe it will go away like it did the last time. I guess there is no clear cut answer, so I will live with the error. So thanks all for your help. Ken
