      I have following system :
      i7mobile, 8GBram, nvidea GT330m, win7 64b, sketchup 8 pro.
Here is my problem. I have only noticed it recently, but when I am working in SU (not even a big model) suddenly one of the core's goes to 100% ...and stays there! Even if I stop doing anything in SU it still stays at 100 %. It can not be a ram problem.
I don't know exactly when t started but I recently upgraded my SU, some windows updates.
      Any thoughts anyone ?

I'm going to guess it might be a plugin.

Odd. Does your graphics card share memory and/or processing power with the processor? Is it integrated graphics on the processor? This could be the reason for the high demand on a single core, I have an i7 desktop that has no such issues. I have another computer with intel integrated graphics I could test SU on if needed to see if that's the issue.

No, it is a separate graphics card (so I am told) but is in laptop and both the I7 and nvidia card are M(obile) versions of the desktop versions.
Seems unlikely it has anything to do with the hardware since I ahave been running these programs on the laptop for at least 2 years and never had that problem before.

This was my first thought to ! So I unloaded the SU4Thea plugin since this was the latest plugin I installed and because it apparently rely s heavy on observers I thought it might trigger something. But with the su4thea loader name changed so it wouldn't load it still occurred. So I will have to try all my latest plugins one by one.. trial and error.

but thanks for the head up, guys.

Have you tried without any plugins? Just as a quick test to verify it's a plugin issue before you start filtering out which one.

continuous to be a mystery. Without any plugins it seemed to be OK,... but suddenly, bingo, 1 core to 100 %. Uninstalled SU, installed the previous version. Same result.
Perhaps it is a windows 64 thing ? Strange is that although the core is at 100 % even if I am doing nothing, but when I switch to another program, say Exel, the core drops do a normal percentage.

                    That is strange.
I use 64bit Win7/8 and have not had such issues...

Perhaps you got some files stuck in VirtualStore? (You can use this plugin to check: http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=48399)

                    Perhaps updating drivers help?
