Theres quite a few good manual on kerkythea over at the kerkythea website, just have a look at the downloads section. Theres the FAQ on the podium website, which is quite good for podium related stuff. The best pace t look for info is the respecive websites for the rendering engines. In general there is a wealth of information in the forums that isnt in many of the manuals.

Just a final update on the matter. I tried connecting at home this morning before going to work and there was still no luck. I then tried at work and had no problem at connecting to the KT site. A colleague of mine who also uses KT and frequents the KT forums told me that he couldn't connect at home either. So it looks like connecting via a proxy server is at least working for us. Still think its really weird though!?!?!

Thanks Fredrik! The translucent material were just what I was looking for - don't know how I missed them before. I used those materials for the shades and just replaced the spotlights with a face and the illuminat material mapped to them - very easy to control. Here is an update with those changes - I still have a little more tweaking I want to do. Bytor [image: p6Tk_wilkahn_mlt_test-2-5.jpg]

Although I'm part of the KT Team and people thereby might disqualify me for replying here, I give it a go anyway... To answer your first question: No you're not dreaming... KT is a really good and stable render... And perhaps most impressive... One of the few render applications, where you can take advantage of both biased and unbiased render methods... But since it's free, you can easily test and check it out yourself and be your own judge...! Some users find KT difficult to use, while others adapt the techniques very quickly... The same can be said about any other render application... I recommend that you download and read the Getting Started tutorial, which will guide you through the application enabling you to get started... In our Tutorials section of our Download area, you can find many useful tutorials... Even some of the older tutorials might help you crasp things better... As a final word regarding how to make a good render, I will take a very wise quote by Pete (aka Solo): @unknownuser said: ...you must realize having the tools does not make one a carpenter, meaning that there is a level of artistic talent and desire needed in order to set up a scene, composition, lighting, texturing, modeling, and so forth that requires one to have a genuine interest and find much enjoyment in what one is doing in order to succeed... I hope this can help you further...!?

Hi, recon. The obj problem is a flaw with the model; if you import it in any other program and it will appear the same... the only real way to fix this is to just rotate your model . I'm not sure what you mean about messed up vertex's... perhaps the model is not smoothed or it is smoothed too much. If this is the case, simply right click the model name and in the smooth tab, select your preferred angle of smoothing. If you need some extra help with KT, there are a bunch of good tutorials in the tutorial repository.

jim, i welcome your intention of creating both a written manual and videos. i find it the right combination to show what an application can do. for what it is worth, the written guide that is available for podium is quite good. i have learned all the basics from it. besides, it goes a little beyond that. @unknownuser said: However, for rendering, you really need the facility to stop the tutorial during the render process and resume afterwards. If I knew how to do this, I would create video tuts for V2, so if anyone has any information in this regard, I would be grateful if you could pass it on. i suggest you post a request for this kind of info as a new topic. i am sure lots of people will give you good tips about video tutorial apps.

Hi EduardoNL, I suggest you take a look at this thread at the KT Forum, where I've provided a small test scene and a step by step guide, showing you how to use it right... Hope this can help you further...

Dear Jean, Okay, I took an Inventor model and saved it as .sat; then imported it into AutoCAD; then scaled it x100; then exported it as a .dwg; then imported it into SU; then scaled it x0.01. The model is a quick one, and done to test the process (lots of small features, curves and holes close together). Here are the results: Seems to work. Now, about going the other way...... Kind regards, Bob [image: CjUU_Box1.jpg] [image: L1gO_Box2.jpg] [image: 6OD4_Box3.jpg]

@autokidd said: So heres a funny one, now that i rotated the texture in sketchup and sent it to kerkythea, I had to make some changes so i went back to sketchup, resent it to kerkythea with the shingles rotated to account for the wierd texture orientation and now it has turned the texture 90 degrees again in kerkythea, any ideas now? The short answer is No... It's not that I want to sound rude or anything, but I have no clue why this would happen... KT doesn't do anything to the UV-mapping applied... KT "reads" the 3D model and the settings applied... Like I said - it's an UV-mapping issue, but although SU isn't famous for the way it handles UV-mapping, I've never experienced anything like what you're reporting, so my best guess is that there's a rational explanation to this... Again - the best suggestion I can come up with is for you to post a 'skippy' where this problem is present and then I (and others) can try to debug it... Only alternative is that you can try to rotate your texture in KT, but I don't know how you've made the material...?!? [image: SKHR_KT-UV-coordinates.jpg]

Hello the trick of all that is this Put the joint orange(servo)to the piece orange then Group the Joint orange(servo) to the piece orange Only now use the "Joint Connector" from Servo orange to the "Parent" white!!! "Parent" white is previously made like this Put the joint violet(Hinge)to the piece violet(horizontal cylinder) then Group the Joint violet(Hinge) to the piece violet(horizontal cylinder) Only now use the "Joint Connector" violet Hinge to the "Parent" white (vertical pieces grouped)!!! (Input Name in Controller for initialize it) Rule is "put the joint to something"(not with the "connector"), "group the joint with the something", then "joint connector" the joint to a parent Have fun Sketchy Physics [image: 6DPD_concepta.jpg] roboticArmTest2.skp [image: nIrm_11s.jpg]
