      Hey all, I use SU alot, and found this free renderer, and am new to it. I was just wondering what I could do to improve my renders. Here are some renders I have done.

        The first thing id suggest is to detail your models more, theyre looking a bit flat at the moment. It takes a while to get in to adding loads of detail, but it gets easier as you go.

        The other thing you could do to quickly improve your renders is to get a good studio scene going and learn to use environment maps and HDRs.

        Better texturing would also help, but its a very fine art and one that only really comes with experience.

        Probably the best tihng to do is just keep doing loads of renders, they will start to get better fairly quickly when you do a lot of it.

          Hey, thanks, the sonic screwdriver model I made, the second was from the 3DWarehouse. What do you mean by more deatail models, the sonic screwdriver was as detailed as I could make it, that is an exact model.

            Hi Mike,

            I don't think there is much problem with the first image. The second one (which you downloaded) is a bit low poly for PR rendering and could use some more details.

            In general, the advice for SU is to model efficiently with as low poly models as you can afford without making the model apparently too segmented. This is however not true when it comes to PR rendering (or even just the opposite).

            Download the KT tutorials first of all (you can find them in the Download section of the KT site) and concentrate on the materials first of all. Materials will "make" your models look "realistic" first of all, then smart lighting and scene setup etc.

            There are a lot of pre-made material (and model) libraries at the KT site as well. Download and install them and start playing around with the different settings to learn how to tweak them to your needs. Also read about the different rendeing presets already provided under the Render dialogue (it's always important to choose the proper one).
