@cotty said: You can use section cuts together with scenes to produce a similar animation effect, some examples are here, here and here (basic instructions). hello cotty tnx for this links . this feature u have linked i know. in the video look this effect like section cut animation for all the own part. ill try to explain in german cotty or i ask this question again in the german forum. is difficult for me to explain in english. some documetation in the TV (most historical docu)show . how the building growing up brick for brick, beam for beam. sometimes like section cut animation or showing step by step or laying down etc.. i will hope u can understand me. its difficult to explain this in german ,too. this what i have found was this german commercial. tnx again cotty Edit: i have now found two videos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OdGSsZZJ2ho https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRE6OdSkmn0

I wanted to put a big thank you to everyone again. This is not a drawing to true dimension of the lower manifold for my engine project, but rather a conceptual rendering. My core block and heads are still on the boat and I am too impatient to wait for them to arrive to measure and go to that detail with the design. But, this was an EXCELLENT instructional project to achieve my goals for the design. I still need to add the injectors and design the plenum for the proper volume and blower mounting, but that part is easy compared to the runners! Thanks again, here is the model rendered out showing the plumbing and base plate in place. Intake Manifold 3.skp

circleinasquare I have been watching your post and have some comments / suggestions hopefully to help vs confuse: More segments are not better. As that number increases the size of model MB wise gets larger, you run into problems of end point inference ( even to point of snapping to undesired point, color comes in handy here , some printers limit the number of triangles in the model ( ~ 1,000,00), and other issues like Box noted above plus many more like your graphics card performance. While you get up to speed keep segment count down to default; The issue of axis color is some what misleading. A color axis does not mean it is " on axis" per se but is parallel to that axis and so one can draw a infinite number of them. It is a another tool in the Su tool box to help along with the other inference tools. Just draw your profile on a plane and make sure it forms a face. It may even help to use small ref rectangle to start, the arc tool can do its thing some times and that will give you a on face ( plane ) inference point; There are no tangents in SU in the classical math sense we were taught in school ,but that face profile must be perpendicular to the edge you are extruding around to start ( so if you attempt to start at a section of the segment line you have to make sure it is perpendicular to it. The first step in that extrusion process is a projection of the face along the first vector and will get changed in size if it is not or may not even work. Instead of drawing the profile perfect to start( like you are doing with large seg count=> inference problem) start with a straight line approximation then lay in you arcs, circles etc. Once you have a good SU model run it through the link I gave you above and it will give other info on printing acceptability( You can make a SU solid model that Printer's will not accept). That's one of many and is free. Just some thoughts

D Bur Projection works in SU2014. I downloaded it from his library, changed the extension from .zip to .rbz and used Install Extension to install it. Quit and restart SketchUp to get it to load completely and enable its toolbar in View>Toolbars.

Deleting stuff doesn't actually remove everything from the file. Go to Window/Model Info/Statistics and click Purge Unused... For starters.

Something like this Separate the Profile (welded) for a better easy selection of the segments! Select the profil Select the surface (click twice on the middle of the surfaces - zoom it) Click Twice on the empty Space And curiously prefere an horizontal "profil"! (so just a rotation from my previous post! Thickness will follow the skin! [image: QH30_imago.jpg]

g_wilson, I attempted to follow your directions, but failed due to noobness. I got a bit lost there, especially in the "select instances" step (could not find that in any menu/pop-up menu?). I did mess around with components, but getting Sketchup 2014 to transfer changes from one component member to all of them . . . didn't work. Selecting them all and scaling them all simultaneously brought about the usual behavior (centers of circles moving around). So, I solved my problem by starting from scratch and using circles of the needed size instead of scaling anything I had derived from another model.

SketchUp will baulk at making an edge < 1/1000th inch. It will consider the two points that are needed to make it to be coincident ! 0.5mm is about the limit. 1mm is safer. Any operations like a Circle or FollowMe etc which try to create very tiny edges will fail because of this 'limit'. Hence the Scale up 'trick'... These kinds of tiny edges can exist [e.g. when you Scale down afterwards] - but they cannot be created.

Sorry TIG. I am working with SketchUp 8 under Windows XP. Your Tools Collection now appears under the Tools Menu. I tried it and it works great. The component recieves shaduw too. What I do not understand is how to let the component face the camera and to project shadow. EDIT: That problem has been solved too. Thanks, Rob

Thanks for all your advise. In fact i think your right, it's too hard and a mistake to try to make a bolt like. I will think to do my object on another way. Thanks Mac1 for the example. Matt

The best thing to do is install the Sketchucation Plugin store which you can do without even knowing where the plugin folder is. Download it from the link at the top of the page and install it using Window/Preferences/Install Extension Then once you have that you can download all your plugins fresh and updated. There is even an addon to the plugin tool (easily auto installed via the tool itself) that will open your plugin folder for you. The other main option is to use the Extensions Warehouse which you will find within Sketchup, Window/Extension Warehouse. Once you get going with those any manual installs you might want to do you can do by clicking the Open Plugins Folder from the Sketchucation submenu. It is strongly recommended that you install new plugins rather than copying your old ones across.

If you are talking about Fredo6's Bezier Spline it is a very complex plugin and can do many things. You may want to look at the tutorials for it. You can certainly add as many control points as you want. Even a simple double click on the orange line will add another point. http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=100509#p100509
