Odd, this issue has been buzzing me... It looks like you have entities already in place, at the angles you want this new item to be, so I would try something along the lines of adding the new item to the other component definition as a sub component. If the 'angled surfaces' are not components make them so. Do it once, or twice, depending on how many angles... and you are done. My case required two, even though it looks like more. My book finally arrived! Following it's guidelines I put several scans together as a single jpeg using the autocad pdf lines to ensure everything was lined up in photoshop, when I import the image into sketchup and then scale it and paste the line work of what's existing into the file I'm trying to use the two lineworks no longer line up despite coming from the same file originally. Where am I going wrong? I've tried pasting the image into a more developed file but that meant the image wasn't visible despite being part of the file. I tried to upload the jpeg but I get a server didn't understand request dialogue.

While I think you can go a long way with site plans and SU, I think that you as a Civil engineer should look at discussions on inaccuracies within SU. For example you cannot draw a "true" circle. Just search "accuracy" or "inaccuracy" on these forums. For CAD you might look at Draftsight or DoubleCAD. I don't use them but they are cheap and seem usable. You are a little early, as Trimble is buying SU, and perhaps some capabilities will be added in the Civil direction. Sorry Gai, but the right tools for the right job, as it were.

@gaieus said: For such, organic "sculpting" I could suggest two plugins (both cost a bit of money but not much). One is Vertex tools which is perfect for terrain shaping and the other is Artisan that is a more generic but extremely powerful organic tool. For such "organic" modeelling and complex textures, I also suggest checking out Blender. It's free, open-source software, and may better suit what you want to do - though be warned, it is a mightily complex bit of kit, so not half as easy to learn/use as Sketchup! It will also happily import Collada or OBJ exports from Sketchup - so you can have the best of both worlds; using SU for ease of modelling, and Blender for the "fairy dust" to make things look prettier.

I think it swings through an angle of about 100° between open and closed. You ought to be able to use pretty much the same parameters...maybe changing 100 to 180. Thanks Allen I will take a look and see if it works for me. Jordan,

Solid tools may be preferable. However, by way of clarification Hole On Solid functions in both Version 7 and Version 8, as Tak2hata adjusted the code. The tool will work on any grouped and closed volume. Feel free to show different.

best option is (in AutoCAD) to select all the items you want to import, then "w" write-block to a new file, and specify 2004 version dwg file in the options. Hope that helps.

Ah, I now see what you mean. See the section only. Sorry Dave. Yes, you are perfectly right. Since the section cut face is a group itself, it can be displayed without the rest of the model (in fact, there is a setting to put it on a separate layer which makes it even easier)

That's a good method. I used something similar when I did an animation of a sewing machine making a lock stitch. This is the first frame: [image: 7155097606_c0c1cc4f05.jpg] And part of it when you zoom in and use Perspective mode. [image: 7155097396_7060a07715.jpg] Everything but the tensioning knob is drawn flat but they are at different distances from the camera so some things are partially hidden behind others.

Can't belive this thread is this old! Because I have just started to have this problem on textures shifting when double clicking on item. This happens on faceme items, specifically a tree I was editing to hide edges around leaves. This is a glitch that needs fixing.

Hi, try this one for example. Just put the downloaded file in the plugins folder. You'll find an option "contours" in the plugins menu.
