AutoCad to Sketchup
-
Hi,
I just purchased Sketch up pro and am having a bit of problem importing the cad files to Sketch up.....last night, i imported my plans from Cad and this morning i tried to do the same thing with my modified plans, sketchup keeps on bringing a msg saying,
"Invalid DWG version. This does not appear to be a valid DWG or DXF file or the file is write protected" ..... i tried everything but i may have overlooked something. Can anyone help me on how to fix this problem asap.Cheers.

What version of ACAD are your DWG files saved as ?
I suspect ACAD >r2010 aren't supported by SUp [yet], so try doing a SaveAs to an earlier DWG version, or change your ACAD options to always save in an earlier version anyway ?
Because a lot of stuff doesn't come over with the CAD data [text/dims/hatching/etc], it's a good idea to do a SaveAs [to an earlier compatible version], erase unwanted/unusable stuff and then Purge all unused and Audit, then save... and import into the SKP...See this Help link http://support.google.com/sketchup/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=38578

best option is (in AutoCAD) to select all the items you want to import, then "w" write-block to a new file, and specify 2004 version dwg file in the options. Hope that helps.
