well the flaws of "faked" ao vs true raytraced solutions is known i guess... nevertheless some advanced display options would be cool in su, may there be ao or bump mapping or whatever opengl has to offer=)

Coincidentally I posted a clay image on my blog today: [image: Bathroom-clay2.jpg] (Rendered with IRender nXt using the Clay Rendering option) The sketchy edges do not reflect in the mirror properly. We have another option to render edges which would handle reflections properly, but it only works with non-sketchy edges. If you want Sketchy edges - it is best not to include this obvious of a reflection.

One feature I requested for working on my laptop was the ability to switch on/off dialogues! The great guys at sketchup wrote it in under >Windows>Hide dialogue. Using the shortcuts key, I have programmed the "D" key to temporarily toggle the dialogues on or off - great for floating dialogues and maximisng screen real estate - so location of dialogue boxes on my laptop is less of an issue now! (For the oldies - GDS running on Prime used to have this feature!)

lapx, it's been covered repeatedly here on the forum. You can copy your templates, styles, materials. Don't copy plugins, though. Download fresh copies. Many plugins needed updating with the switch to Ruby 2.0 in SU2014. This shouldn't be an onerous task since most plugins are available through either the Sketchucation Plugin Store or the Extension Warehouse which will both automatically install the plugins you select. It might be a good time to pare down the list of plugins in your Plugins folder anyway. Setting up toolbars shouldn't take you very long. On the PC you can make custom toolbars for the native tools if you wish. It's quick and easy and can buy you a bit of toolbar real estate because you can eliminate buttons you don't need and by combining tools from multiple toolbars you can get rid of a bunch of those dividers.

You can "extrude" the selected lines with the fabulous "Projections" plugin by Didier Bur Then Intersections with anything will be more easy! Last icon [image: file.php?id=30105]

@tommyk said: @db11 said: To follow-up on the curation/community tagging/moderation issues and suggestions: create a group of certified super-users as 3DW editors that can verify and stamp models as 'validated': clean geometry -- no gaps, stray edges etc drawn to SU "best practices" norms optimized complexity/model size -- through components/mirroring/curve segments etc purged of excess/unused components/textures/layers etc It's quite a job to moderate the models - not sure what these super users would get out of it. That said, I do think moderation is needed - there must be a way for everyone in the community to share the job - Wikipedia manage to make it work without formal moderators. The fantastically strange and wonderful thing about the internet is that people will work for free if you give them titles and little stars to put by their name. That being said, as soon as they get those titles a lot of them tend to stop working so hard or at all... Listed, Visible Rankings of how many models uploads/downloads and how many moderated would really be interesting to see.

The number ONE wish for developers was .. (drumroll..) Get SketchUp running a Unicode capable Ruby (meaning v1.9+,) AND get both platform editions on the same Ruby version & patchlevel at the same time (ie, SketchUp version & MR.)

@unknownuser said: If that is what you are doing......try selecting the trim tool before selecting any entities.....click 1st on "the box" and second on the first sheet(it will trim)....the "box"(first selection) will remain selected so just click on second sheeet(it will also trim)....click on third sheet.....and so on. Should be aproximately a 50% time saver. More than 50% for now, since I rearranged my toolbars with the 2014 update, so all the less-used functions (less used than the pencil and eraser, at least) now have a built in "oops, it's over there now" delay.

@tommyk said: Those are nice tools. Thank you for the tip. I also didn't think about the benefits of being able to draw tangents. All of that said, the plugins don't have the quick and clean feel of the theoretical circle guide that I had in mind. I use Sketchup because I find it a highly productive (quick) tool for modelling. I'll have a look into the Ruby API and see if what I want can be provided as a plugin... Welcome to polygonal drawing, forget about geometry with the circle. Workaround, workaround.

It is possible to have different textures on the same UV of a component! And you can move, scale, rotate these textures independently on each component/instance. Just use Octane render. TIG helped in the development of exporting plugin and here is my topic on Octane forum how to use instancing and Sketchup. http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=31%26amp;t=22581 [image: file.php?id=29033&mode=view]
