Well done indeed. I play around with a similar process so everything sounds familiar. Do you do an x-ray view overlay for one of your images? It seems there is an interesting transparency showing through. Also, how do you handle your selections in photoshop for things like the floor showing through the furniture and such. That is on heck of a selection! Best wishes and keep it up!

Thanks guys! Very useful chain of replies! All good tips from changing the color, and I had to find the AO switch as suggested but I ended up with the right result.

Hi folks - thanks for the replies. I have been giving the plugins some trials without much success. For the record, it will only work for the smallest selection areas but will crash otherwise. I had better luck going with a typical 'from contours' surface even though it was less accurate.

With Indigo, softening the edges seems to be the solution (just until the edge disappears, that is [edge angle + 1] deg)

Render looks much improved...glad I could help. It's funny, I had the same problem with the warehouse scene and I removed the glass as well. Normally I don't do many interior renders and if I do, I would probably not use Vue. I think removing the glass would only work if your reflective angle was such that it wouldn't be too obvious. If you have a lot of interior lighting and a darker atmosphere, I also don't think it would be wise to remove the glass as slight reflection would be important.

hi all - thanks for comments pretty detailed discussion of technique here thanks to majid: http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=4616&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=majid+watercolor also thanks to tom for his tips on the advancement of the digital process found throughout his posts- he has an uncanny ability to precisely make things look imprecise certainly not replaceable by a button.... if anyone is interested it would be nice to take this discussion up again to refine the technique, give it a shot based on the previous posts and see what you can come up with- maybe we can work on it together

This is slightly off topic and a bit confused, but I was making some bump maps using a sharp-edged black map and it actually punched through the image (jpg) and of I remember right the resulting image cast shadows. When I have a moment I will redo the experiment and post the results if , indeed, that is what happened.

Hi Billy, There are a couple of notes here (sorry but on this "craputer" at work in the office I cannot even get the current snapshot to be imported to SU so I cannot check every word now). Google used to "encourage" users to hide all edges in the model before uploading. Now AFAIK in the latest SU version it is automated so your imported CAD lineworkwill never show up. The snapshot and terrain images are never diplayed in GE so whatever you drape on them will not be displayed either (you can use Tom's workaround however). It seems to me that you are only working with the snapshot and not the (elevated) terrain. Notice that there are two extra layers in SU after importing the snapshot; the flat GE Snapshot which is the one you should start working on (and from your decription that is inded the case in your workflow) and which is turned on by default AND the GE Terrain which has the topography features (which you seem to be missing) and which is turned off by default. You should also adjust your model to the terrain (with different techniques since it is never 100% accurate). You can turn on this layer by clicking the checkbox right to it OR by using the "Toggle Terrain" button in the GE Toolbar.

thanks for the comments everyone. Tom, the edge accent is a cool trick I learned from majid... it involves the creative use of the "colored pencil" filter in photoshop to find the edges for you, just put these on a separate layer pre-caravaggio to get control of them

I kinda like it. Did you just use the watercolor filter in photoshop? Came out better than my first real watercolor.

Hi Chris, Her is a little translation of Matt666 thread : Import the component you want to update : File -> Import In "Window -> Components -> Select -> In Model", right clic on the component which has to be replaced and clic on "Select Instance" [image: file.php?id=14476&t=1] Right clic on the new component you have just import and clic on "Replace Selected" [image: file.php?id=14477&t=1] Ciao, Oli

hey, nice models. are those mountains in the background from just random photos you found on the interweb, or did you take them yourself? if so, where? they look suspiciously like the mountains near my house. if this is too personal (ie, giving away where you live on the net), you dont have to answer. i was just wondering.
