It'd be clearer if you posted a SKP so we could check it out. The line is best draw along the red axis and the group you are bending behind it and the arc behind that. Also the line/arc should be of sufficient length to give the bend needed. As @Box says you can also flip the bend using the toggle key presses when it's previewed.

@l i am said: Rich, how did you predict where the triangulation's were needed? You are simply trying to neutralize ngons by making them quads or triangles. You need to do this as efficiently as you can. Box's example went the SUbD route which prioritizes quads. Artisan deals with either. Ngons cannot subdivide with regularity but tris/quads can. So you approach needs to factor this in.

Thank you Rich and Sam, I think this may be a solution for myself wanting to make organic wood playground elements. as they are kind of organic and free-form anyway a bit of randomness can be tolerated. And as Rich says poly count needs to be considered. Would still like to ask if anyone has any experience with a free 3D scanner please post with good or bad results it would be very much appreciated.

To match the images you show you need to either UV unwrap the mesh and texture paint. Or sculpt the mesh and bake the high poly to a lower poly mesh. Both non-novice topics and activities. For displacement to work properly in rendering you need tessellated surfaces and SketchUp isn't suited to too much tessellation. The most efficient way to do this is to trick the eye with texture detail rather than mesh detail.

The difference is mainly accuracy. Example: two pixels in a "ramp". Bumpmap represents them as a stair. Normalmap tells the engine wich direction they are facing, thus represents them as ramps. Again normal maps are really worth if for game engines as people keep zooming in and normal maps work better, while at still rendering zooming in a lot isn't that usual. Both still show artifacts at subtle bumpiness levels, but that is minimized with higher bit depth images like 16bit or 32bit images

Guys I have just deleted the link to HDRI"s I posted Sorry but they contain some sort of virus The site is called emotion HDRI"s when to use the HDRI it will do about 6 render cycles and then focus in on a texture and "No Emotion" will be displayed on that zoomed in on texture. Suggest you get rid of anything you downloaded ASAP (edited) That was a false alarm. I do not know what happened with my first render, but I have downloaded a few HDRI;s and rendered with no issues. In fact they seem like vert good quality and work well. http://noemotionhdrs.net/

It might be an installation issue... If you have set the SketchUp.exe file's properties to always 'run as administrator' [or you right-click it and 'run as administrator'] this can mask issues which resulted from an incorrect installation initially [see later]. The downside of setting SketchUp this way is that you then prevent Image drag'n'drop. Windows Explorer always runs at the base level of permissions. Elevating SketchUp's permissions above that then causes an issue. Windows does not allow an application to affect another application running at a higher level. So drag'n'drop no longer works ! Change the setting[s] and drag'n'drop should work once again... SketchUp needs to be installed properly. Select the SketchUp installer's exe file, and right-click > context-menu > 'Run as administrator' This will ensure it installs and then runs properly later on. Being the admin, or having admin powers, is not the same as running it 'properly'... If you already have SketchUp installed you probably don't need to reinstall it from scratch. Close SketchUp, then run the installer as administrator as outlined above. When prompted choose 'Repair'. When SketchUp restarts all should be correct. Any Plugins etc should be remembered as before... If you still have problems try uninstalling and immediately reinstalling - running as admin etc...

If you are still using Thea download their Licensed Materials from the Licensed Material Club. Or make you own the Material Lab in Thea.... [image: NivN_thea_2017-06-10_11-05-15.png] Use a Glossy material layer, add bump using procedural textures and tweak the scale. Also adds some anisotropy to get the proper reflections. [image: C4X5_thea-render.png] Obviously this is not the best example render but a quick way to show how to use procedural textures in Thea. They wont render in Presto though but you can use Adaptive AMC with the GPU.

Just type... Sketchup.send_action 10624 ...into the Ruby Console to gain access to the Camera Clipping values If you zoom and pan in the viewport you can see how SketchUp adjusts this value range on the fly.

Perhaps when drawing it you inadvertently enter the radius too early? The typical suggestion for drawing circles is to set the number of sides to something divisible by 4 so that there are vertices on the cardinal points. I use values divisible by 12 so I get the vertices on the cardinal points but the circle is also evenly divisible by 3.
