I usually do a mix of modeled geometry and textures. For modeling there are a few different approaches. But generally after getting faces in the basic shape you want the water fall to take, then subividing to allow more detail - Artisan, Vertex Tools & SubD will get a nice shape going. Winning with Sketchup has a cool youtube tutorial on using Eneroth's Fractal Terrain Eroder to get water shapes, also. With Vray, I'll make a copy of the pool water, then change the uv tiling in the vray materal to be stretched in the direction the water is falling. This makes the water look as if it is falling. I use Interactive render with a small render region to help speed up previews. Also, tend to adjust the refraction intensity/IOR, as well as the reflection amount to get things looking right. And of course....always have a nice hi-resolution inspiration pic for reference!

Your Preferences for File locations should include a Materials folder. Don't use the shipped-materials folder, make your own. It could be anywhere - e.g. your 'My Documents' folder, or more normally in: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp 2017\SketchUp subfolders - same place as your user's Plugins folder... I have all of my custom folders/subfolders of Materials, Components, Styles, Templates. classifications etc in there... Once you have the folder made and linked in Preferences you can see and export any material SKM from the model or a collection of all material SKMs from the model. To show up in the Materials browser they need to be SKMs - image files aren't listed...

Hi Box thanks so much! I had breakthrough, what I was doing was trying to modify your model for practice and was drawing lines in "free air" such a newbie mistake . Then I realised that starting with a box and modifying faces and edges is the way to go. Have attached a rough render. I am interested in what you thought the Led's were? I completely understood you, you modeled all the lights and then replaced them with instances that does not produced remarkable saved time... am I right? I mean a totally different approach, or sort of trick. the same trick that is used to simulate a fire: an image from fire flame ( that is also emitter) + an opacity mask.. You can mimic all the lights you have in a single texture like that and using the appropriate opacity mask, eliminate unnecessary parts and this way reduce emitter faces as much as possible... a bit tricky but time saving.

Hi Guys thank you so much for your thoughts. The 1940's bar requiring the "scars' and nuance of a war effected economy and the sketchup forum link (with some interesting suggestions that may have merit) and little big house ( I need to research that) all sound really interesting and I hope the inspire and challenge others. Thing is I failed to communicate my thoughts well at all I am trying to build a portfolio and gain experience in Architectural Visualisation. So am looking for a brief in that sphere. Atm I am plagiarising other peoples architectural concepts and putting my own spin on it or designing out of my head and working with spontaneous variations and atmospherics. My most successful stuff has been watching a movie and finding an image within the movie that inspires, and doing a model/render trying to recreate and putting a spin on it that makes it mine. But without referencing that image further than my original mental snapshot (see attached image as an example of a mental screenshot from "The Martian 2015) The result looks very different from the inspiring screenshot once I referenced it on completion of the render, As I added people and changed it to look more contemporary. Sorry about the ramble but that was my way of giving ideas for inspiration to others. And in light of that asking for other ideas/brief/conceptual start point specifically something that may impress Architects requiring an architectural visualisations, especially building exteriors.
