Great advice from Andy. A well detailed model is the bedrock of a good render.
John
Yeah, I had the same hurdle to overcome. I was finally sort of mastering the tools, but my models just did not have enough details. Something I still forget sometimes.
Also gary, the scale of you objects seem off. Try using exact measurements for your objects. I think you'll be very pleased with your results!
Keep up the good work! You are constantly improving and you are farther ahead than I was at your stage.
Could not agree more with that Bryan, and Gary I do hope you show the result if you take up the sugestions. I think you will find it valuable. It is all those little things at the end that make a good render. I also sugest reference materials such as images of real studios are also of value

Both images make me want to live in the house, but the second one seems more natural, late afternoon, early evening during the summer or maybe early September. Brilliant work though.
Thank you, I find it difficult to choose at the end, "forrest for the trees" syndrome. will try to use Criterion Architecture's suggestion about a more over exposed sky when I get a chance to see what that does for it

RE: Modern hotrod?
Nice work Mike, it has been on your drawimg board for some time. Cant wait to see it finished and in an environment

RE: USS Enterprise from the Original Series Blueprints
Nice work, keep us posted mate

RE: Ward Bennett chair complete
Nice work David
Not sure that your objective was the render quality. But as a render the
(fabric?) mapping is not good. Can I suggest that you remove the mapping Sketchup created and then replace the mapping with the same (or other material) in your renderer. I do not know what renderer you are using but doing that should map your material correctly

RE: Exterior render no post render work
Thanks Bryan! and agreed I find Raylectron is a bit like sketchup in that it is more powerfull than seems at first. I bet you are hanging out for V5 as well. I believe they have started from scratch on a completely new platform. It is a long time comming though but thats OK I think they learnt a lesson from releasing the earlier versions (V2 and V3) permaturely. But V4.95 rocks!

RE: Wheelchair Accessible Lathe Stand
Nice work and a worthy cause
Something I do not understand though wouldn't the lower cross member impede the wheelchair? Or does that accommodate the required reach? -
RE: Wheelchair Accessible Lathe Stand
Fair enough Dave, between the time I posted and now I kind of came to the same conclusion as you did, It was just initially counter intuitive;)

RE: Art Studio
Have a look here for some basic stuff

RE: Art Studio
Hi, Gary, just a suggestion, I think it could be improved with lots and lots of paraphernalia such as a painting on the easel jars with paint brushes, tubes of paint, paint books, finished paintings, reference images on the wall ect And LOTS of colour around the room. Its a good start but looks completely umfinished. The room should look used and and full of stuff, I am sure if you look there will be all that in 3D warehouse if you spend a bit of time looking:)
And I think the grain on the wood texture is running the wrong way. -
RE: Tensegrity Christmas Tree
I am assuming the current is through the tensioning wires ? Might help if the show that the structure is also a circuit by including them, Tensegrity structure are not easy to understand and are a bit counter intuative if not shown clearly:)

These look great Liam! I would vote for the 1st image personally because I think the sky wants to be somewhat overexposed for realism towards actual photography. The 2nd would help if the interior spaces were lit up a tad bit more.
Thank you, I will take that on board and have a new go at it when my energy recovers. Looking back on it and what you said about the sky makes sense to me thanks for the comment, very helpfull

and thank you boofredlay:)

RE: Metro Residence
Amazing work mate
I love when people post architecural work here It makes my day:) -
RE: Exterior render no post render work
Thanks a lot guys
I use Raylectron. I started with version 2 which I abandoned because it was so bad, but then took up the Raylectron, Punch (V.4.95) which I find really good. I am waiting for V.5 which I think will be amazing.
The difference with the 2 renders is the renderer has some basic ajustment within it (Gamma, contrast intensity, exposue, brighness, saturation etc). I must admit though that I can play around with the general ajustments, lighting sun, shiny etc for a LONG time to get it right and that takes patients. The Sky is just a background. Have posted another image with the same or similar settings below

Exterior render no post render work

I am still working on my folio before I put a capabilities statement out there. Because of myself being hesitant and my neuroses about learning gimp/photoshop I have been practising using my render engine to its limits, without any post processing so this is directly out of the render engine.
I designed this building and landscape as a modern take on the Japanese pagoda and minimalist Japanese landscape design.I always have an issue with the subtle lighting settingsand become indecisive. Would welcom comments on which lighting I should go withCheers
