RE: Night moves x UPDATE 2
Nice work Bryan
I always wonder why people seem reluctant to put people in models though. There are some very good quality 3d people both seated and standing available in 3d warehouse. I think a person sitting in front of the computer screen just partially blocking it may add another dimension to the image, just for instance. -
RE: Cottage Style
Hi Steven, that is an interesting look, it looks kind of Photoshopped but the raw sketchup says it is not. Looks like a montage of styles but it works
The perspective looks a bit "weired" somehow, not a bad thing perhaps but I cant put my finger on it. Not saying that is a bad thing maybe it is meant to hold the veiwere attension, it did mine

I could ask her.
Please do Dave, the reason I asked the question originally is that I am considering volunteering some of my time to teaching Sketchup to dislexic kids. For the local dislexia foundation. I am in the of process of research.

My wife works as a tutor at The Reading Center here where she works primarily with students who have Dyslexia. Of the students I've met, they all seem to be very good spatially. One of them became a machinist making custom high end medical devices.
Hi Dave, interesting does your wife have any opinions on this?

the greyed out wood will match the Cape Cod feel as a lot of the structures out there are weathered,
this is probably the only moon gate in Cape Cod

also Moon gates are Chinese, don't think you see them in Japan but I could be wrong. You do see moon windows in Japan that I do know.
Hi Joe, it very well may be Chinese, I have never heard of a moon gate before and just assumed it was Japanese. I am pretty sure It is very beautifull though. Great work

This turned out real nice
We sealed this with a clear waterproofer without any UV screen so the wood will all go grey to blend in with the Cape Cod look.It did turn out real nice mate and more
I have a keen interest in Japanese Landscape design and it has inspired me into using your design as a hero in a Japanese landscape design. Really great work mate
It looks inspired by Japanese landscape design, and I do not get any sense of any connection with "Cape Cod" though... -
RE: Notre dame
A Cathederal here in Perth Western Australia was in such poor structural condition that it required a major but partial rebuild.
Modern architectural additions were actually engineering imperitives, without which too much of the original building would need to be destroyed to get back the structural integrity for like for like rebuild. I have attached images of the project on completion.
So many people were "up in arms" about the concept (All the armchair Engineers and Architects who were forming petitons and marching in the streets) When it was finished it was loved by everyone
The Architectural company charged with the rebuild will be chosen because they are up to the task, to think they will not consider the matix of Architectural, Engineering and Social elements whatever the considered solution may be. To think otherwise is just ignorance.
You may note in the images the beauty of the building still remains and the timeline integrity is easily read and intact.

In the case of a soufle one cannot add to it either. So let's have scrambled eggs! But seriously, I understand the point. It's not important to the French as it was, but as it is.
TouchΓ© with the analogy
But I think it wont be scrambled eggs,I have seen this principle applied on other projects and have never seen "scrambled eggs" Anyway that is for people beyond our pay rate to ponder. We will have to wait and see. -
RE: Notre dame
Just heard a great quote, Rebuilding Notre Dame like for like "would be like trying to reheat a souffle"...........perfect analogy

RE: Studio End of Day
Nice work Tuna and I especially like the table lamp.......it looks perfect
Only thing is no artist I know or studios I have visited are that tidy and clean

Hi L i am, I did see that list of high achieving individuals and that makes me feel better. I find 3D very easy as well as space planning like 2D CAD. I remember in 8th grade that I scored top of my class in a particular end of grade State test for space/shape awareness. The test had 3D objects and we had to choose with unfolded shape matched the 3D shape as well as other similar questions. I made good grades in school, A's and B's for the most part. I actually did better in Spanish than I did in English
I did manage to obtain 2 college degrees, an Associate in Architecture (2 year) and a BS in Civil Engineering. I still find it a struggle even today to manage with my short comings. I have to type out an e-mail and then re-read it to make sure that all of the sentences make sense and aren't missing words and such. Sometimes I still find I missed something. I work at a private University and we had a directors retreat last year and we had to go around the room and call out our biggest weakness. I claimed that I could not spell, at all. I followed up by thanking God that I could draw.
Hey Glenn, that sounds exactly like my history. I left school at 15 due to my dislexia. I later in life, came top of my class completing a degree in Industrial Design, I have been working in the roll of Landscape Architecture and expect my Landscape Architeceture qualifications to be formalised very soon. dislexia is a sometimes frustrating gift

RE: Notre dame
Hi Mike, it is a universally accepted fundimental principle of heritage Architecture. The principal was formed to serve the community. I am not saying the answer would be a glass roof, but I am sure the principal would and should apply. The derogitory term for trying to rebuild it "as was" is reffered to as "pastiche"
Oh I forgot to say that is awsome work Jo-ke

-
RE: Notre dame
I personally would not support allowing the event to be errased by a like for like rebuild. The event should be embeded and read into the timeline of the building. I think it would be criminal to rebuild it would damage the timeline integrity. That is not just my opinion but a universaly accepted fundimental principle of heritage Architecture BTW. and frankly Majid with your qualifications I am at a loss to understand how you do not get that.

RE: New York Rooftop
Hi Gary, I have as a last resort tried to explain with an example image which was thrown together. If this does not explain it I really do not know what will. Somthing else I do not understand is why you did not respond to comments by amending your existing images like the artist studio instead of completely doing another from scratch with the same elephant in the room faults. Anyway hope this hasty example enlightens(Edited) Oh I forgot to add your materials use has improved a lot

I honestly think that I might a bit. I have ALWAYS been a horrible speller. I sometimes, either typing or writing, put words in a sentence out of order or drop words altogether.
That sounds like my grade 5 school report

I think you are confusing dyslexia with autism. There are many on the autistic spectrum (Some say we are ALL on it somewhere) who have the common title of 'Savant' or 'Sauvant' which is a situation where the subject does not have the "I cannot do that" switch. Something that prevents many of us achieving our potential.
Hi Mike, being dyslexic myself I have a fair understanding of the difference between dyslexia and autism and the "Savant" syndrome. I asked the question because I have 2 friends who are dyslexic and are very good designers and extremely good at anything 3D. A short list of some high achieving indeviduals:
Pablo Picasso, Albert Einstein, Richard Branson, Steven Spielberg, Steve Jobs, Ludwig van Beethoven, Agatha Christie, Winston Churchill, Ingvar Kamprad (IKEA}....................
My only request was to, as I said:) find a correlation between 3d and dyslexia as a kind of survey to satisfy my curiosity

RE: Modern hotrod?
Nice work Mike, it has come a long way
I wonder what the studio would look like with a mirrored turntable?
