Thanks Chedda. Yes, the subdivision was to enable a little displacement on the building walls and ground. The house is raised up on a plinth as it's located in an area that suffers from periodic flooding, so there was always going to be a problem with the house being disconnected from the site. Personally I would have preferred to have seen the site softened with a lot of landscaping. All that stark space makes for a dramatic image, but I suspect that it's not easy to live with and could be quite isolating. A lush garden would balance that out I think.

The mouse is pretty much brand new, but it could be a driver issue......assuming the issue comes back.

Thanks Carloh The texture runs at the same angle. The problem you can see is an optical illusion caused by the camera focal length and the slope of the wall.

Thanks Marian and Bryan. The first thing I tried with the truck base was RoundCorner, but it didn't work very well with that shape.

When I first noticed the problem one of the first things I checked was whether normal smoothing was checked, but unchecking it didn't make any difference. The weird thing is I just tried this again and unchecking normal smoothing works fine. Regardless, you are right about the bevelling.......it looks much better and doesn't exactly take long to do.

@hieru said: Frederik's diagram on that thread is pretty good and Notareal provides some useful variations, but I thought all the options might be a bit confusing. Keep in mind that the posted Frederik's diagram is for Kerkythea. Even as models needs to be split a bit similarly in Thea, same diagram does not apply. Use of "Container" is required for correct result. Study Thea example scene GlassOfWater.scn.thea (that you can find under File > Scenes > Examples). Also on said topic it's mentioned that you need to use mouse right click > Assign Interface. "Assign Interface" was replaced in some point with term "Assign Container".

I've got no excuse. I've been out clubbing with friends and the time change has thrown me. I'm trying to resist turning on my PC as I'll probably end up modelling all night. With my user name I was trying to mix up my real name with an interest with Egyptology, but only recently realised that it was a pretty common Japanese name. It seems to catch a lot of people out. When the haze has cleared, it would still be good to hear if you have any thoughts on the truangulation issue. Think of it as splitdonut in reverse.

If I where modelling this, I'd add the bevel. Naturally also a treatment with artisan. Also topology was a mess. Here is some good reference photos, if you still need http://tiinaliisak.wordpress.com/2011/03/30/jasper-johns-light-bulb-vs-harri-koskinen-block-lamp/

You're right, no help, but no matter. You did the job with what you had and it came out beautifully. It looks like it would have been made easier by having smoother, more consistent arcs, but that is something looking at your model made me focus on: the plugin workhorses seem to like it that way and that is something I need to learn, esp. good 3d arcs. The easiest, simplest path was for me 3 tangent arcs, welded, with a tangent line for the spout.

I've only tried one of the above solutions (with no success) but whilst looking at my options I thought that I could subscribe to CS5.5 whilst waiting for CS6. However I stumbled upon a slight problem that more people should be aware of. In the past Adobe offered good discounts when upgrading from the previous 3 versions. When CS6 is released these discounts will only apply to people who have CS5

Thanks for all the advice . I spent quite a lot of time researching printers yesterday (Epson, Canon, HP, Lexmark & Brother). The problem I found is that most of the multifunction printers seem to be geared towards quality photo printing and tend to suck when it comes to general colour documents, which what I tend to do most. The only exceptions appear to be a handful of the Canon models and up until this morning I was settled on the MG6250 - despite concerns about it's wifi and ink consumption. However I had another go at fixing my current printer and managed to get it working again. I know it's only a temporary fix, but it buys me some more time to consider my options and look at separate printers and scanners.

Thanks for the compliment and practical advice. I'll definitely correct the shell material in future renders. To be honest I didn't pay attention to the actual chair and selected a glossy finish to help the shell stand out against the background. Modelling the accompanying ottoman is on my to-do list
