There's also the Reduce Polygons function built into Artisan. However I agree with Dave R that you should try cleaning up the model first.

Otherwise the Blender option is pretty good even with complex geometry. It has the added benefit of retaining UV mapping too.

    • RE: How to set camera FOV according to geometry in the model?

That isn't the FOV (not how it works when setting FOV in Sketchup anyway). You are describing a viewing position dictated by the middle distance between two points.

You could temporarily draw a plane between the two lines and then use that with Align View.

The problem is that there is no correct FOV. Adjusting the FOV is essentially the same as picking a camera lens size - it's up to your own judgment as to what looks best.

You can do it using faces. Select a face then Right Click > Align View.

You need to triangulate the geometry before exporting.

The basic version is free Luisfon. The price tag only applies if you need all the pro features.

The frame is a pin, select the frame > right click > Make Pin

That's very smart...it will probably remove a step when I record my pillow workflow 👍 .

Is there a way to have pressure (or have a future feature) where you can have a pillow and drop it on to a sofa or bed? I have played with this in Max a little bit.

Although we'll have to wait for future releases to do this properly, it's still possible with the current version.

I just need to pull out my finger and find a screen capture method for recording my workflow.

      I use QFT: http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=348501#p348501

There is also TriangulateFaces, but QFT works faster for me: http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=175613#p175613

Personally I prefer the full preview during simulation, especially when it comes to live dragging to create a little randomness. I can’t say that I’ve noticed a performance issue unless using super dense grids (which generally aren’t necessary).

Here's a bit of a mix with SUbD to make a rudimentary bed.

Very cool. Are those dimples made using pins on the underside of the cloth?

Isn't that part of the functionality of the pugin (to prevent it from hanging up due to the extra computations required)?

I'll give that a go, thanks.

Looking good so far, but I need to dig into the manual so that I can appreciate the full potential.

I was using Convert Wireframe To Quads....that was my mistake. Convert Triangulated Mesh To Quads does the trick. I got there in the end - thanks for pointing me in the right direction Rich.

QFT doesn't like that at all...tons of duplicate and reverse faces plus surface weirdness.

Does anyone know why there is a huge difference in results when applying SubD vs Artisan to ClothWorks generated geometry?

I can't seem to get smooth results with SubD as it generates extra geometry and everything appears tessellated. Notice all the dimples with hidden lines turned off.

I was wondering will v2 comes with something like force modifier in Blender, for pillows and similar?

Version 2 will include these. But in between, the plan is to:

      1. Improve cloth collision algorithm, so that cloth doesn't overlap itself.
      2. Add multithreading - we must use most of the processors resources.

That's great news and the plugin is looking awesome as-is!

For pillows I was thinking of a workaround technique using a similar approach to the clothing example that was shared a while back. Is there a clothing tutorial in the pipeline?

    • RE: POLL: Meters or Millimeters in your country?

Yes, a real headache! I can count on one hand the number of architects I've worked with who produce faultless and consistent drawings.

    • RE: POLL: Meters or Millimeters in your country?

I mostly work with UK architects. Supplied dwgs tend to be labelled in metres, but drawn in millimetres.

When discussing changes with architects they often switch between m, mm or cm - depending on which aspect of the design is being discussed.

I personally prefer to model in cm.

Like you, I couldn't get it to work. But now I've found a way to do it too - with one more simple step than in Box´s demonstration. Before I use QFT like Box did, I unsmoothed the entire geometry first. This worked !! 😄 so please give this way a try as well ...
( not a video though but my very first GIF here 😉 )

Isn't that just softening the triangulation? Box's demo seems to be removing the triangulation altogether and that's certainly something I can't replicate.
