@TIG said in Component Axis: If you set the component's axes to match its face then it's no longer rotated at 45° when it's saved out of the model. Just leave its axes as the default [45° off the face], and then it'll import into another model rotated as you hope, because then the component's geometry is not exported as axial. Thanks very much for explaining my error.

@Dave-R said in Cut through roof: Explode the vertical face, use Edit>Cut to cut it to the clipboard, open the roof group for editing, hit Edit>Paste in place. Then select all, use Intersect Faces>With Selection and erase the unwanted stuff. Thank you !

All my programs are on my C:drive. Created / saved files go to a folder on a larger D:drive. Old habit I guess.

@Dave-R said in Component confusion: @danna Look at the orientation of the axes in my screenshot. Give the component gluing in the Create Component panel. I had tried glue vertical before, but was having trouble setting correct axis. Thanks ... working now.

@dave r said: In your example, since you haven't really drawn the rafters, you could scale the roof to change the pitch. I made a group of all of the roof lines and, at one end I drew in a couple of guides with the Protractor with the desired roof pitch. I used 4:12 in this case. Then just scale the group down to the intersection. Probably you would want to divide up the roof into seperate groups so you could scale the narrower section individually. Click on the picture if it doesn't animate immediately. [attachment=0:y9rjs0cs]<!-- ia0 -->roof.gif<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:y9rjs0cs] I drew it that way to get a total LFT of rafter lengths. Your example is exactly what I'm trying to do. I had tried scale before and did not get the desired results. Surely user error. Will have another go at it. Thanks for that animation ... that's great.

I use the following plugin, Hole on Solid tool v1.6.3, to trim, miter or drill holes. It will work on groups and components. It is not perfect, but sometimes it is a lot easier to make a miter cut or a trimming cut though multiple stacked groups/components using this tool. Just draw a face representing what you wish to remove, select the face and then select one at time the groups/component you wish to modify. Ken

@jim said: Scale the objects to some arbitrary size, and then enter the exact lengths after. You can now enter " marks without the Scale Tool switching modes. Are you saying the Mac Scale Tool changes modes after completing the operation? You are right. I hadn't tried that. It is inconsistent with most other tools because they don't use shift as a mode change. For example, when using the rectangle, line, move, etc. you can just do the first click, start the operation, and then type a value. You don't have to complete the mouse operation using a second click before you can press shift!
