Thank you guys so much for your time and effort to try my model. Those are fine renders.

From my side ,I happen to work with guys who do 3ds max and whose benchmark is Evermotion,

Honestly, I have to put in a lot to even try to match their results. VFSU 2.0 somehow is getting there. I have yet to see how Thea will perform.

@Pixero, 39 minutes may still be a little quite long for my boss, If we are to use GPU,
Then He would expect something like 3 - 5 minutes.

@Andybot, Yes Im immediately requesting an upgrade to 2.0 and as you say proxy the other hi poly stuff. your render is impressive for a 5 minute run, Is it done on one machine? Would I be able to cut that to say 2 minutes If I use DR on say 3 machines?

I would never wait 3-4 hours for any render. If you have multiple workstations, try setting up DR, that will cut your render times incredibly. I assume you are using 2.0?

Im using still 1.49 in the office but will upgrade soon. Unfortunately Im the only SU users for now. All my colleagues are hardcore Max- Vray...

Yeah, Im sick of waiting that long..That sometimes mean staying overnight in the office. These is the era of RT, I know this shouldnt be happening...

hi guys . This is my attempt to share a 100+ mb file of the model of the render i posted earlier. My files usually gets up to 180 MB.

This renders in about 1 hour 15mins in my I7- 16gb ram using vray 1.49.

I'd be glad to have somebody test out this model to see how renderers compare in terms of speed to deliver a decent 3000 render.

This is with vray data but vray elements are in a layer which is turned off initially

Check link below-- (hope the link works)

Those are decent renders Srx. I am vray for SU renderer but would be willing to shift (say to Thea) if that's what will satisfy my requirements in quality and much needed speed.

To make myself clearer , I attached here a sample of what we normally do. at 3000 resolution. This takes 3 to 4 hours. I wonder if by some good hardware, I could make it say, 10 minutes...

My boss would even want an instant 3 seconds full high res. What kind of machine could deliver this?

      Hi srx,

That 15-30 mins is impressive for a high quality render 3000 res. Would you mind posting here one of example that you rendered in your hardware.

    • Really interested in GPU using VFSU

HI all, hope anyone can help me.

Recently , my boss asked me how we can avail of a fast solution to rendering. We are interior design firm that does a lot of rendering and modify finishes every other hour as client demands.

I recommended him interactive rendering and he is willing to buy whatever is necessary. We are a bit conscious as to the quality of render. We sometimes print in A1 or A2 SIZE , so the resolution is about 2500 or 3000. Normally with standalone machine a high quality renders at 2 - 3 hours.

If I opt for GPU solution, How much time can we save producing the same high -res image? What graphic card can you guys recommend?

    • RE: Anyone have a Titan card?

Hi, just about now Im also considering GPU solution for VfSU, and EVGA GeForce GTX TITAN
6 or 12GB is what Im trying to convince my boss to buy but I dont have experience whatsoever in GPU rendering.

I'd love to hear anyone who has experience knowing that this will cost us up to 3k USD. Should be worth the investment.

Im with Ban Ki Moon on this.." stop fighting, start talking and take on the root causes of the conflict so we are not back to the same situation in another six months or a year"

Im for peace but wont go for a one-sided campaign. Hamas I believe has committed war crimes against its own people.

Alvis , I think you've perfected the art of this trade using SU. And thank you for sharing your techniques. I work in a furnishing company but I think modelling sofas still takes a lot of time .. We cant like produce things at the speed of thought.. The tedious connect the vertices, then triangulate faces, plus the urge to make it look perfect, simply robs me pleasure of doing it.

In the earlier part of this thread, I quote you saying "I'm probably stupid, because in the world is a better programs". Now that you have mastered your workflow, Do you see yourself shifting to ' the better programs'?

    • PLUG-IN WISH : MERGE FACE TEXTURE

      Dear plug-in masters,

I would like to express my idea for a plug-in.A TEXTURE PLUGIN . There might already be a plugin like this that Im not aware of but it’s like this.

This is going to do the following:

Combine or merge the texture in a face- For example I have face with say 10 x 4 repeating pattern. I can right click on that face and save the texture as new consolidated texture.
With that being one texture, I can modify in photoshop, say add dirt, recolor some areas to break the noticeable pattern etc. If Ill be able to do this then, never again will I see a flat looking plain wall or ugly repeats.

My work around for now, is to cut a tiny area in the corner, paint it with another material and then “combine texture”, and cover that tiny bit in photoshop . But I wish I don’t have to go that path.

For now, its just one face, but I would really love to see the same function in multiple faces, even non coplanar faces. Then this might be the start of UV unwrap.

      Please see example below.

      Yours,

      Edd

lovely... you have mastered this incredibly. May I ask you one question. This last sofa you made, (the red one)how much time will it take you to do a typical sofa like this, if you have the idea in your mind how the proxy should look like?

because in the world is a better programs. Slowly, I can see a few steps ahead, how to do it. Excellent Plugin (VertexTool, FredoTools, Artisan and many other) improved capabilities, but...
I'm starting to think that Sketchup evolution is too slow... 😢

Im always challenged with this tufted furnitures. Its kind of tidious to come up with
a proxy that would yield a good subdivision.- (non destructive). Much much easier with Max for example. But i still do it in Sketchup for the love of the software... Yeah, we are everyday hoping for better handling of polys..😄

HI Dan..guess I reacted too fast.. Yes I had the icons appeared on top but they are not fully functioning.. Isolate object (which is most useful)for example doesnt work. What might be wrong..Might be some plugins conflict.. been downloading plugins lately, that started the prob. Is there any known plugin in conflict with Vis Tool?
