Then you need to find a renderer that you like. Many people like Podium, kerkythea, IRendernXt, V-ray, POV-ray, Indigo, and on and on. But SU does not do true lights and lighting effects. It does shadows, but no more. Chris

Something like this? @me said: When you change the Scenes (Stone and Brick), the texture of the walls will also change. Examine the visible/invisible layers (and the groups on them) associated with the scenes. The texture on the walls will change with the scenes. There's no "transition" however. Made simply the same way you generally make "changing" geometry with on/off layers and scenes.

Thanks for the help with the workflow, guys. I'd heard of Sandbox but never found it. I searched the Forum and saw that it needs to be enabled through Preferences/Extensions, which I just did. I had assumed that when I was drawing on a flat surface the tools would select the surface, and was not orbiting to confirm. I'm having other problems that this doesn't seem to cover. I'll post another thread with the issues I'm having closing rectangular faces. Best, JIm

I thought that entire session was great. It was good fun to be presenting with Gaieus, Susan and Jean. All people I feel like I've known for so long. Then to be able to present with them! I think everyone did a great job presenting useful information. Thanks for watching it David, Chris No basecamp this year I guess?

sandbox is sucj a fantastic tool... i a doing a major complicated counctry side countours and its pure magic. One feature which would be handy is when its processing to make the contour, a STOP button to cancel the process if needed...

Thanks again. Thats seems reasonably simple. My biggest gripe is changing dimensions after they are already there. In SW if I had one feature that had many other features dimensioned off it. It would hold those dimensions even if I moved the original feature. Ohh well guess it is something I will just have to get used to. Thanks

as far as i know revit does not read sketchup textures or skm. files but you can add textures to revit using jpg. png. and bmp. You simply go to your materials and under the render appearance tab load a new image file into the program.

Hi guys -- Quick note to say problem sorted. I downloaded a simple free cad program called emachineshop. http://www.emachineshop.com/ Its well supported with video tutorials for a cad beginner like me, and is provided as a do-it-yourself design service - You design your metal object, and they then use your design to make it for you with their laser cutters, etc. The programs focus is thus pretty limited, but I was able to use it to accurately design my 2D land subdivision in a couple of hours using the survey data from the deposited plan -- the bearings and distances of each boundary. The program was able to calculate areas of each lot as well. Like Sketchup, area calc with emachineshop is not associative -- ie once the shape is finalised, its locked. You cant drag it this way and that, as you can with a line, rectangle, or circle, and watch the dimensions change as you do. Also, having put the intl bndries in to create 4 lots (sub-areas), I had to save it, reopen a copy, then erase lines til I had only one lot to measure at a time. For some reason, I had to flip it over (View/Bottom) before it would read the area. Next job is to tackle 3D and add the contour data. Maybe by then I will be ready to tackle Sketchup and dress it up with some houses and landscaping!! Thanks malakaii

hmmm... I dunno about the sandbox tools, it's very limited IMO. If I was undertaking your project I'd use apps like Terragen, Vue or z-brush to sculpt the terrain accordingly. Alternatively if accuraccy is not an issue I'd use a contour map and use the sandbox 'from contour' option, then use SDS to smooth it (after cleaning as sandbox leaves a lot of additional geometry that needs trimming)

I color everything, bricks, metal, even made the roller shutters (boarding, altered width to 100mm and made the brown much darker). Many Thanks Ashley @gaieus said: Ad far as I know, Sketchy Physics won't create scenes t5hat are needed in SU in order to export animation natively. Try some screen capture software for that - I use AutoScreenRecorder (Free version) for that and am satisfied with the results and quality so far: http://wisdom-soft.com/products/autoscreenrecorder_free.htm As for colours - I guess it's just like with other SU geometry; you can use any materials with the Paint bucket tool to change the colour. Try going view->hidden geometry to see if youve inadvertently hidden it. It would also be worth going window->layers and checking theyre all turned on.

While I see what you are after, Tom, Shift is currently used to lock the circle tool on a specific plane. Since it's a general mod. key in SU for all other tools where it can be applied, I doubt that Shift specifically should be used for this. Maybe another key?

Indeed, that would be the "average" use; to end up with one object and delete "unwanted geometry". I see that you practically needed two different objects and this means two different operations - but at least can be done this way.
