This is probably the clipping effect. Read more at the above link and see if any of the circumstances are valid for your model and any of the fixes help. Sometimes (especially with imported geometry) exploding then regrouping things can also help.

The components can talk to each other - but it's a bit different. Click on the block with a hole in this example with the interact tool to see how I made it work. Set the onclick attribute of the switch to the following: Animate("Switch_RotZ", angle1, angle2); Animate("Light!Material", Material1, Material2). Doing this will work, even if the light is not in the component with the switch. The problem becomes importing and adding extra copies, but it is doable. Mark It's the game of telephone! In the past I've used terragen and 3dem to help make importable TIN files too. Didier has also written a greyscale.bmp importer that will import a greyscale bmp file in as a 3d terrain mesh. I think there are lots of exciting fun things to do in the TIN area of SU. I have not used global mapper before though, I should like to check it out. Thanks for the info on it Charly, Chris

I've been getting this a lot the method I've been taking is to delete the face I'm dividing then draw the dividing lines in, then selecting each subface to remove any extra faces using the delete tool. at times I've had 4-5 stacked faces that I've had to remove before I started doing the above. oh and an easy way to find stacked faces other than the Xray face mode (stacked faces show up darker) is with the paint tool.. if a face won't paint, it's stacked...

OK, thanks. In fact, I do have QT - only I disabled its plugin function because no matter what I set, it always "wants" to play all file types which I hate (why is any program so agressively take over my file associations?). Anyway, enabling the plugin let me see the video, thanks.

Not only here but after I saw it in the SketchUpdate Blog, I also mentioned in The Daily CatchUp. BTW Tommy, The Daily CatchUp, you know! It's been some ten days since you came back from vacation [image: gsu-team.jpg]

If you can't get that to work you could try opening the .skp in DoubleCAD XT (free), and save it as a .dwg. If your 2D views are saved as scenes in the .skp DoubleCAD will create a paper space with viewport for each scene preserving layer visibility settings, view, and 2D or perspective camera properties. It might accelerate getting your design into AutoCAD. -- William

Hi, Thanks for the explanation/tutorial on how you achieved this DC. Makes for very interesting reading and deserves a bit more attention than it is currently getting. I hope more users check this post out to see how much work goes into such a simple concept.

@honoluludesktop said: Hi dale, I have had zero problems with dxf. If you take the same model.dwg, and import it into SU via dxf, then via dwg, that the dwg is OK, and the dxf is not? One of my pet thoughts, thoroughly unconfirmed, is that things might work better in imperial. Importing metric files might introduce further inaccuracies due to the conversions involved. Once this suggestion was strongly turned down by Jim Holman, but it still remains that the floating-point accuracy of SU is not as strong as in the heavyweight CAD apps. And I understand that the DWG/DXF importer is third-party code. Possibly I am still quite wrong... Anssi

As to processors, the newer Xeon and i7 processors seem to have a slight edge compared to older dual- and quadcores. I tested a 2.53 GHz Xeon a couple of months ago, and it seemed equal or a bit faster with my small models than a 3.6.GHz P IV. Anssi

This is really strange, indeed. Can any of your keyboard keys (or mouse button/wheel) be stuck?

Thanks, You are right, in this case, Gimp or PS will be practical to change a bit the colour and to make a bigger map.
