      Hi to All,

tonight I played a little bit around with Global Mapper and created a DXF-xyz file from a SRTM-tif, for use in a road construction software. Then i tried to import this DXF-xyz file into Sketchup and it worked. Sketchup was creating a terrain mesh from the XYZ height data. Before i reduced the file size by changing the resolution in from 90m tiles to 500m tiles.

At present i don't know what it will be usefull for, maybe somebody will find a Purpose.

In the past I've used terragen and 3dem to help make importable TIN files too. Didier has also written a greyscale.bmp importer that will import a greyscale bmp file in as a 3d terrain mesh. I think there are lots of exciting fun things to do in the TIN area of SU. I have not used global mapper before though, I should like to check it out. Thanks for the info on it Charly,

        Chris

Lately you've been tan, suspicious for the winter.
