I noticed that the offline version of vector magic http://vectormagic.com/home has a dxf export feature, might be useful if you wanted to do a lot of this type of work.

This would be a case of think like a carpenter. The carpenter doesn't need the hole to exactly fit the sink, the sink just has to fit in the hole and since it has a return around the top edge, it will cover the parts of the hold that don't match the sink. The lazy man's way: First, hide the sink. Double click on the top until you get through the different groupings to where the top most surface is highlighted. Draw a rectangle on the surface of the top. Push pull the rectangle through the depth of the top. Turn on Hidden Geometry under the view Menu without exiting the sink top group, you will now see the ghosted view of the sink. Using the move tool or the push pull tool, move the sides of the hole until they are under the apron of the sink edge. Once that is done click out of the group, right click on the hidden sink and unhide it, turn off the hidden geometry under view and you are done. This uses very little geometry and represents what the carpenter will really do (they may put a radius in the corners but not always). Hope that was clear.

I've been investigating this further and have found that the problem can be reliably reproduced. I have submitted this to the Google forum at http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/sketchup/thread?tid=6b0a0298daee1261&hl=en At the above link I have posted links to SU files that can reproduce the error, as well as a YouTube video showing the bug in action. The work-around in my case seems to be to ensure that the component is in "edit" before using Project Photo (when using match photo). Hope this helps some others

yes, SketchUp 7.1 on a Windows 7 laptop. (although I discovered a few minutes later, that I didn't have textures enabled. when I redid it with textures, it took about 20 seconds...

I got Win7 and a nVidia 8800GT card - works great. Smooth as anything. Pretty sure it's a hardware/driver issue.

You can always unhide hidden geometry in the View menu and work on it as if it wasn't softened.

Hi Taylor, When you "poked" that shape through the other one, select everything, right click on the selection, and from the context menu, go to Intersect > ...with model (or selected). Now the two shapes will form edges where they meet and you can start carefully deleting unwanted geometry.

Hi Jean I cant seem to get to step 8 as the program says there is a limit problem. how do i get through that??
