When we are at it, Tomasz (otherwise developer of the su2kt plugin therefore well aware of such problems) have a brilliant plugin to quickly reverse back faces: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=13380

Thx Dave R....I guess I'm using that dynamic component (didn't realize there was a component distinction to be made) I'll try that when I get home from work.

Yes, that custom attribute is left over from me trying to rememeber how to get it to work. As for figuring out DC's - it was a painful experience. I recall lots of nagging the development team for better docs. They have a pretty good website now that puts together the possible methods and examples of each method in action. In the Component Attributes window, just click on the functions tab. Then look for the little "more" url link. It brings up this page: http://sketchup.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=108144 And I recommend starting just like you are. Play around with onclicks and hidden variables, then move on to rotation and moving and copies, etc. And good luck! Chris

Honoluludesktop is right - this is the way to export every scene in "batch mode". What TIG refers to is a plugin you can download here as ado.zip.

You could try Blender as a go-between. Its a frree 3d modeling software. Export from SU as collada or 3ds or .obj (requires a plugin). Then open that in blender to export as an .fbx from there. See if that exports it better maybe? Chris

unfortunately that doesn't seem to be working for me. imagine the following situation: you have got a 'onClick' function assigned to a subcomponent. the function animates a Variable. and now I want this variable to multiply the length of another subcomponent (or even the daughter of another subcomponent). somehow I don't seem to get this to work... [Edit] I just checked again. the value of the subcomponent's variable isn't passed on to the parent component. neither does it reach another subcomponent. to me it seems values can only be passed down the chain, but not up. unless you have to use a different way of referencing it, than 'subcomponent!variable'...

Not surprised. SU is actually pretty powerful, with the right plugins you can make a whole lot of amazement.

Alan's suggestion looks like its a good one for overhead views. I'll have to put that one in my tool box. One technique I've used for modeling large areas of forested terrain is to use an aerial photo and project that texture on the contour map, then come back in with a series of tree line objects that i build. basically a photo of a forest edge without bothering with casting shadows. I set these up in a loose lattice in middle areas, similar to where Alan is using his aerial rug and use individual trees around the edges. This can be a very good technique for showing specific views, especially lower angle perspectives. Sorry I don't have any examples to share, but I got the idea based on someones tutorial for making realistic grass that was posted here years ago.

Comparing both purging methods: model info\statistics\purge unused TIG's plugin It seams that number 1 gives better results than number 2 - file size is a bit smaller in a little insignificant test I did. On the other hand TIG's plugin gives more options in case there's something you want to save...

Nstocks, There are 2 ways to print at a specific scale.... From SketchUp: -Set your camera settings to parallel projection and find the view you want to print out. -> With this setting ON, your print options menu will now have fields available to you to allow for printing at different scales of your choice. From LayOut: Chose your paper size. Embed your model into the paper space and set your embedded model to parallel projection and find the view you want to print out. -> Under the SketchUp Model menu, chose your scale from the dropdown menu. I hope this helps CMD

I am not sure I understand the difficulty. However, I drew a rectangle 2' square. I then invoked the tape measure tool and started a measurement at one corner and began a measurement along one side of the rectangle then typed 12"/enter. SU made a guide point at 12" from the starting point. Then I typed 14"/enter and the tape measurement moved the guide at 12" to 14". I know that users of cad programs must "tab" to the dialog box which I think is what confuses many people. I noted that once a tool is chosen the type of information to be input appears next to the tool bar input box.(measurement, angle, length etc) after an initial selection (point, line, surface etc) the field in the tool bar input box turns white. A white box indicates SU is ready for input. You do not have to select the box, tab to the box, click on the box etc. Just type! You may change the input as many times as you wish as long as you do not move the tool (or as long as you move the tool back after moving it at which point the dialog box will read 0)

CHOOSE with OPTIONINDEX() returns INDEX, so it might be of use to you... Since VALUE(text) converts text to a number make sure there's nothing doing that... Does #002 work and strip off the # ?
