It maybe that in the import options, you do not uncheck "Preserve drawing origin" or even if you do, there is some (even small) stray geometry far away therefore SU will start its issue with a too extensive model (when you have geometry of the size of miles - or even small geometry miles away from the origin, it will do this. Try doing the following make sure that you do not preserve drawing origin so SU will import the cad file close to the origin Try to select all (Ctrl+A) then Zoom extent (Ctrl+Z) to see if there is something odd (far away from the origin). Delete this bit. OR it maybe something else, too, of course...

The easiest (?) way is to fill an area in AutoCad or Revit with the pattern and export the result as a raster file, and then use a raster editor to crop or duplicate the file so that it creates a seamless texture. I don't know of non-Autodesk software that uses the same pattern files, although some of the available "clones" might. The pattern file structure is very simple, as the patterns consist of a series of (dashed) lines in various directions. I don't know of a viewer, but writing one should be a piece of cake for a programmer. Anssi

Spaces is pretty powerful. There is a similar type of function in Ubuntu as well, but you can have different windows from different apps open and fly between open windows and apps- much more powerful than the dock system in windows (xp). You could for example, if you were managing websites, have an open space for each site, photoshop open in one, illustrator in another- keep everything neat and tidy. Shortcuts can also be added in each window, allowing files to be moved around very fast. Also ther are spring loaded windows- something I really miss in XP- no need for copy and paste (although that is there too).

Thanks Alan, I'll try your exporting re importing suggestion. @thomthom: Thanks for your suggestion. well, some models come in low poly acad, dxf format which needs to be converted in to high poly ones. by high poly i mean at least have parts like pipe tube having around 12 segments. downloaded 3ds models are usually very high poly having more details than i required (especially furniture like sofa). Hi, I typed what i showed exactly and it works now. I think the reason was either the formula that used largest/smallest or using constants istead of variables, though what's the difference - i dunno. Thanks for the tip. Last one thing that seems unsolved is how can i make the length parameter editable for the user (eg. if he/she wanted to type in the value) without erasing the formula ?

As a rul - I never change the current layer to other than layer0. That way I ensure that when I draw lines and faces they are all on layer0. And then I change the layer of groups/components on a per instance basis.

I tihnk itd be a lot easier to model the shape in SU than to try and import it from the POV ray file. I'll try and put together a quick tutorial if i get time.

I'll bet that clown used the Skin plugin to create the raising all the way around.
