Thanks TIG. I just discovered this and I'm shocked - this can be what I have been looking for a long time - to put a data in the groups, but without the hassle of the components!

There are scripts to add clines and cpoints, but the Tapemeasure tool with appropriate picking/modfier-keys will do these too. If you want to copy any object [including cpoints or clines] use Move+Ctrl, type in the required distance and you then have one copy at say 16"" away from the original, to make multiple copies immediately type xN where N is the number of copies you want so typing x3 would make 3 copies at 16", 32" and 48". If you want to space the copies equally between a start and an end copy place the copy at the end-position and type /N where N is the number of copies again and there will be that number of copies added between the origin and the end one you just placed - this is useful for equally spacing copies to fill a gap - e.g. first copy is 45" off and then /3 would make the copies equally spaced at 15" [but of course an odder dimension would give equal but awkward to work out spacings]. The above is how to make and array along a path at equal centers but you can also do it around an Arc/Circle using Rotate+Ctrl to make the copies and typing in an angle in degrees, so 15.0 and x3 makes 3 copies, sweeping a total of 45 degrees in all, or with 36.0 and /3 it sweeps the first copy 36 degrees but the intermediate ones are placed at 12 degrees increments in between...

Hi Ben, I am afraid it is not possible in the way you wish. SketchUp is not such a graphical design program but rather a modelling application. There is a 2D Tools plugin - but to tell the truth, I am not using it so I am not sure if it can do what you want: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=22091

So that seems to be the culprit then. If you are for a new laptop, take extra care not even to listen to the salesman when he is trying to convince you about integrated chips.

I suspect it's because the 3ds version doesn't save out the soft property of the edges. Certainly useful to know what formats preserve quads when transferring into SketchUp. Think I'll add a routine into Quad Tools to convert triangulated quads separated by a hidden edge into soft edges. Seems it would be a operation often required if people want to take quad meshes from other applications into SketchUp.

You could contact the author via the site from which you downloaded them and describe the problem. I'm certain he has a great deal of experience. And it would be helpful if you were much more specific as to what problem you are having.

When You need real precise geometry - real curves, circles and etc. When You need geometric and dimensional constrains, real holes that can be changed easily, BOM, associative drawings of your 3d model. SketchUP - fast, easy and use it to sketch your ideas.

@unknownuser said: Very cool. It's very interesting how you can change the actual material beyond just the color. Do you guys find that you use this very often? Although it seems like a very powerful tool for certain circumstances I can't imagine using it for most renderings. -Brodie I have used it twice already, for a furniture catalogue, I needed to show the different variations of materials/finishes of a particular set and instead of doing four renders I just did the one and changed mats afterwards, came in handy and definitely something I will use in future as the need arises.

Yes, when you explode an image entity, the texture created will be projected on the face by default. No matter if a surface is softened or had, textures can be either projected or wrapped.

Thanks for your help guys. I added faces to the .dwg, deleted the doors and windows which I will add as components later, and draped the drawing over the curved surface. Seems to be working thus far. Keep your fingers crossed!

Yep. Happened to me, too. There's a suggestion for Macs in the Google help forum (Gaieus was there, too) "To anyone else searching for this, go to user->library->preferences and delete all com.google files." I'm using SU Pro 8.0.4811 + numerous rubies on Win 7 64 bit A quick search for this string (com.google) gave no direct matches, but some with "com80-kh.google" - which look like some sort of licence or authorisation file so I'm reluctant to kill'em. If its relevant, I'm using Firefox as browser, but there's a feral IE somewhere there too.

Not having loaded sketchup.rb first must have been the problem. When I restored my plugins, I loaded all fo the my_programs first, the first of which did not load sketchup.rb. Once bezier.rb loaded before my_programs, since it loads sketchup.rb, there was no error when my_program loaded. Any idea what caused my animation to export after removing the plugins, and why it continues to export after replacing all the same plugins?

Well, from SU (Pro), you can export pdf as "2D graphic". As far as I know, this can be opened in PS and the pdf graphic export from SU is vector based (i.e. no raster jagginess at all). Also, when you are in LO (and please, do not discard it yet), you can turn your rendering either to vector or hybrid mode and then the export will also be vector based (for the edges). Please, have a look at this post in the LO forum: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=307473#p307473 It explains exactly the same. @teoj said: Um.. I do need to ask if your reply was an answer to the SU to PS question or SU to Layout? Well, I was referring to LayOut (it is a "paper based" app so there is paper there while in SU, it is only for printing). But eventually, when you are already at vector based drawings, paper space (in PS) will also be a useless term. But in any case, in LO you can define paper sizes and dpi settings and 2D export resolution will be adjusted to your settings if you export raster (with vector, again, resolution does not mean anything)

I don't have a network license, so I'm not quite sure how it works. My post here may help you test it out though if you adapt it to your needs.... http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=34019&hilit=+dropbox -Brodie
