Hi, Sonny: Quote: "..What i was reffering to was modeling the grill..than the sink or fridge or whatever else im putting in it.." Yes, that's what I thought you meant. Model main elements like the cooker, sink, base cabinets, wall cabinets etc. Then, arrange them. Also, consider what honolulu said. This is a good systematic way to see how things will assemble. And use the technique that Rich pointed out for getting quickly along. Happy modeling

Hi, have a look at this: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/sketchup/thread?tid=74deeae241b00f82&hl=en In general, the purpose of 3d warehouse is sharing and the ToS imply that what you want to do is allowed. For a detailed and correct interpretation of the [url=http://sketchup.google.com/intl/en/3dwh/tos.html:12hwmeqr]Terms of Service[/url:12hwmeqr], you would need an attorney. Best is always to ask each modeler to be sure if he is ok with redistribution (you can contact the owner by clicking on the model page on the envelope icon next to the author's name).

also, do a research for ThomThom's Vray tools. Thi plugin lets you set an aspect ratio in the model view, without resizing your window, and then you can export the image with exactly that aspect ratio

@mac1 said: Try a different program to see if it is SU or Blender. Somebody suggested the German LTplus_SketchUP plug-in to export from SU to DXF and that worked importing into 3DC-Pro, albeit the objects textures not showing. It's in the 3DC court now. Thanks for all your advice ! O t t o

Use the Scene Manager > Update tool on ALL scenes... BUT ONLY to update shadow-settings [i.e. when they're 'off' in the current view so that's applied to all selected scenes tabs][image: gqdt_Capture.PNG]

As far as I know, SketchUp does not save the ground altitude from Google Earth (or Google Maps). The snapshot is placed centered on the model origin and the model origin (point) intersects the terrain surface. So there is no way for the query tool to know how to correctly determine the z coordinate of the mported point. So you need to know the elevation of the model origin (you can get it from Google Earth or other geo tools). The real altitude of a point in SketchUp is its z value (inch) + the altitude of the model origin in Google Earth. Vice versa, if you import a point you would have to subtract the altitude of the model origin. If you have the geo-locations in kml file format (placemarks in Google Earth), you can use KML Tools which solve the altitude problem automatically.

And that is exactly why PhotoScan is such a wonderful plugin/tool for such buildings like those in Trondheim (and other stuff) There is no way you can make any even slightly accurate model from one single photo without making some assumptions, like that some corners are square. With two or more photos you can calculate a points 3D position in 3D space and don't need to make any assumptions about the objects/buildings. In SU it is pretty easy to place any model into a background photo if you surround it with a helper cube with square corners that can be used for the position and perspective aligning.

Are you asking about how to get these things (glass and water, for example) to look right in a SketchUp image? Or are you going to use a rendering plugin like Kerkythea, Vray, Maxwell, etc? Those are very, very different questions. If it is just a SketchUp image, then to I don't think there is a point in asking for it to look "right", just how to make it look good. And good is subjective. So for a SketchUp image, I say use a single surface for water or a pane of glass and just adjust the transparency (different than translucency) until you like how it looks. The SketchUp image is, afterall, a conceptual representation, not intended to be realistic. If you are going to use a rendering plugin, then you'll need to go looking in the appropriate forum, either here or one specific to the rendering plugin.

@anssi said: I haven't noticed any difference. In 2D exports arcs and curves are exported as straight polyline segments. Anssi Actually, Sketchup Arc is recognized as Arc in AutoCAD and Curves as Polylines. But it must be something... on the way the coordinates are stored, or something about the vertices, because as I said, some of the Arc elements get mirrored about origin of the drawing when I import the DXF into that CNC software. So...that software (NC-HOPS) is expecting something from the DXF and AutoCAD dxfs offer, but Sketchup exported DXF does not, or offer differently.

I am afraid that it is not possible. Every time you make a copy of a DC and alter its attributes, the Component browser acquires a new component definition. Only exact copies of a DC remain under the same definition. Selecting a bunch and applying the same change to all of them creates a new definition for every single member of the bunch, so the only way to keep the bloat in check is to apply changes to only one instance, and then to make copies of that. XP is a dead end road. W7 needs ~1gb working memory instead of the ~512mb of XP, nothing one should care of on a 4gb+ system. if you wanna use XP64 anyhow, check that drivers for every piece of hardware you are using are avail before buying it... @rock1 said: ...save disk space... who cares? There is a separately moderated SketchyPhysics forum. The main moderator is SP's creator; Chris Phillips and the usual helpers are very responsive. http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewforum.php?f=61 I have zero MAC experience, so I can't help there. However, since you are an SU newbie, tackling SP will be a steeper learning curve than it already is. Now I am not quite clear on what you are trying to do. You say you have 2 scenes with 150 tweens. To me that is 150 scenes, and that is not small. Are you trying to create a separate view per frame of video? If so that is overkill depending on your Quicktime frame-rate but I'm guessing here. You may want to post a few JPG extracts of your model, or perhaps the model itself, here or at SketchyPhysics and we can better discern how to optimize it.

Great. Rubies tend to be very specific to what is required, but it really is worthwhile getting familiar with the native tools, as it is surprising what they can accomplish. Good luck!

I thought I'd mention that your framerate and resolution was a bit strange. 1920 x 1080 is 16:19, nto 1920 x 1114; and the ideal framerate is 23.97 or just 24 frames a second, not 25. I understand that you solved the problem, but I would suggest using those parameters, as they're more ideal.
