The fbx works If a clean interior model is made – real world scale and its mapped – in the case of walls – 1 or two metre squared it will import nicely into Armada and have all the features - same with furniture. Beware of the Ambient and diffuse settings ramp them up to white and the specular down to black – - the box I sampled showed very dark. Also set all the pivot point coordinates to 0,0,0 or the model will be off set – and you may not even see them in the virtual As I said earlier I need somebody to show the sketch up community how its done – We are now developing an online version of Armada [WebGL ] that looks very promising. So a user can say commission a sketch up modeller to knock something up that can be uploaded to the users web site and the public can immediately traverse it - in the case of a gallery that is – assets also. [image: 76856617.jpg] @gaieus said: Yes, that would've been my other step now - to soften edges (although inside SketchUp, with such sharp edges as 90 degrees it would look weird). The 3DS exporter has an option to weld vertices - but on the cost of not keeping the UV co-ordinates.

Hi, Thanks for the advice. I should have mentioned that I have made everything into components already. It does help though, to put the components into layers. The warning mentioned is "Constrained on 1 from point." It shows up as I am about to complete a line. What does it mean exactly? I've reviewed my geometry and found little slivers of added thickness in the walls caused by not using the push/pull tool correctly (most likely). Once the extra lines were removed so the faces were on the same plane, the redrawn lines resulted in the faces appearing as expected. SketchUp is soo smart and I'm not.

I was hoping for a way to improve the modeling, not the line work, in sort of the same way that many plugins will allow you to adjust the raster image before exporting. I find that no matter how much I play with the rudimentary lighting controls , I get unsatisfactory images that I must totally recolor to get anything slightly realistic.

Hello Justus and welcome! If you go to the first post in the topic, there is the plugin attached. It is free. Note that there are instructions how to install (and additional plugins to download)

Thanks Alan, Those are great suggestions. I too had thought about the coplaner thing and the perimeter break and tried to correct them but it didn't work so I thought something else might be wrong. I will try your other good suggestions. Thanks again, Rick

My first thought was to do it as a solid. Took about 10 mins with a bit of annotation, but I reckon this was about the same as it would take me with beam components. Uses SU Pro solid tools, but it could be done similarly with some plugins? Cheers - Mick [image: 0cQb_structure.jpg] structure.skp

Hi, Thanks for all your help so far. Speaking of that same complex shape, I have been able to draw it to some specific dimesnsion using beizer curves. However, the edges did not become a face as I had thought they would. I have tried to trace it using the freehand tool, but this is extremely difficult and the edges are really rough. i also tried turning drawing a polyline around it, but it gives a whole different shape altogether. Any suggestions, please? This is really frustrating.

So the work-around works Theoretically the "Add location" feature should work no matter if the model is already geo-referenced and no matter how it is geo-referenced. SketchUp adds some special attributes when the terrain is imported with "Add location": ModelTranslationX -18855495.7977869 ModelTranslationY -215494081.152937 ModelTranslationZ -4278.33784800286 ZValueCentered -4278.33784800286 I have no clue what that means, but it's certainly missing if you only have the normal coordinates. I'll test it out or report the problem to Google.

I think CS2 Extended is the lowest you can go if you want to make use of 3D features. As mentioned, Gimp is the best freeware. Retail alternatives are Paint Shop Pro and CorelDraw. Corel is itself fairly expensive (although you could go back several versions here to save money), but it is an entire suite...so you get the equivalent of both Photoshop and Illustrator, plus some other goodies. The painting bit...Photopaint...does pretty much everything that Photoshop does (including using its filters), while Draw itself is a match for Illustrator...good for presentation layout, other business graphics, as well as useful stuff like converting 2D vector files with bezier curves into segmented curves (a controllable number of segments) ready for import to SU.

So 'never-paste-in-place' if you might want to reload SKPs later IS the lesson hard learnt... I had erroneously assumed that you were using import [or modeling a component in the site-plan with a 'svae_as'], so that the origin stayed true between the files...

Here is a direct link. Nothing special on the JPP settings. Unfortunately the highest resolution for this video is 480p. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8197whwxM2Y&list=UUF9zZt_Xrx6bZ33er9tl6wg&index=4&feature=plcp

If you used components or groups, the texture will also scale down with them. If there are components, you can right click and "Scale definition". If they are groups, you will need to turn them into components first.

Hi Robert, I'm not able at all to help this translation.. But here are some additional links to this wonderful stadium taken from here Here is a chinese Sketchup model of the National Stadium of Pekin National Stadium_v0.skp which is dealing with that sort of questions and is very interesting to dismount... [image: h_4_ill_1019818_pekin-stade.jpg] (taken from: archINFORM) I have worked on it for a friend who was asking me quotations, cause he was to install a "Spider Cam" on it for a manifestation... I also have one - I gues after a while everyone will cretae his/her own [flash=640,480:3e0grkv6]http://www.youtube.com/v/VvI6A7Njw4k[/flash:3e0grkv6] As for softening edges... select all and right click > soften/smooth edges. A dialog will pop up where you can pull the slider to the right until you are satisfied. This will soften every edge with the same degree. softening selectively can be done with the Ctrl + tool

Yes, if you use the Full Color Sandstone material from Shapeways. It requires only one texture in Sketchup (combine them first if you have two or more) and converting to VRML in Meshlab to make it work, here's a tutorial. Its quite a bit of messing around, but it does work. i.materialise will take your Sketchup file directly, but since their pricing promotes big projects, it will cost more than Shapeways.
