Knight, Others may do better than me, but I think that it would be easier for people to suggest things if you explained what is wrong with the picture (what are you trying to do that is not there) and posted the SketchUp file in this thread. Even if we see where you are not getting what you want, the particulars of the model cannot be understood by pictures alone. If these "layers" are groups, pushpull will only work inside a group. It won't affect other groups. Pushpull comes to "constraints" as it moves into secondary faces, where faces are not square, or some geometry connected to the P-P face would be impossible (illogical) were the face to move further. If I were puzzling over such a thing I might turn on "color by axis" in Styles ( Style window: "Edit, Edges tab, Color: by axis") to see how my object edges are aligned (assuming they are related to the model axes at all). Also are you modeling in parallel projection? I find perspective view is easier to work in, in most cases. Parallel has particular uses, mostly for the orthogonal views. Please try posting the file. Good luck. Peter

Use a combination of Google Earth terrain + 3D buildings. View > Toolbars > Google. Have fun experimenting with each option.

@gaieus said: Hi Patrick, I would first wade through all my plugin folder to remove any renderin related rb (or rbs) file manually. Uninstalling the application itself may not remove these files, too. If SU is still unstable, you can safely reinstall it and all your custom added plugins should remain intact. **As for the forums - it won't disappear. ** Hi Gaieus just an update to let you know how it went! I did as you said and removed all render related rb files and it appears to have done the trick. I did not have to re-install SU so maybe I think that Render[in] 2 clashed with my other render programs, I had Podium and Shaderlight installed. Anyhow all's well and thanks again for your help. Thanks also to Annsi and Catamountain from the google forum for taking the time to reply to my call for help!

There only appear to be two storm troopers in the 3DW ...and only one carrying a gun. So i assume that's the one you mean. Yes, the entire figure is grouped, so unless you enter Group Edit Mode, the whole thing will rotate. Inside that group, all the limbs are sub-grouped. You need to double-click the outermost grouping in order to get down to the next level, then apply the Rotate and Move tools to those sub-groups.

Hi htv, hi folks. Try this: 1 - Orbit, pan and zoom to set a view that you like. 2 - If needed, switch rendering mode like X-Ray or Back Edges or whatever. Add shadows or fog or whatever. Switch style if required or create a new one. 3 - Use View menu --> Animation --> Add scene to create a scene to memorize all these settings. A scene is like taking a photo of you model. 4 - Repeat steps 1 to 3 as often as you need to create all the required scenes. 5 - Use View menu --> Animation --> Settingsto uncheck the box labeled Enable scene transitionsand set Scene delay to 0. 6 - Use File menu --> Export --> Animation. 7 - In the Animation export dialog window, click on the Option button. 8 - Set the frame rate to 1 frame per second (use custom choice to allow a value lower than 5). 9 - Exit back to the Animation export dialog window and make sure that the file format is set at JPEG images. 10 - Navigate to the folder of your choice, set the file name and then press the Export button. Each scene will be exported with the file name that you specified followed by 0001 to nnnn where nnnn is the number of scenes of your model that you included in the animation. Just ideas.

Thank you guys! That looks like that should really do it. I'll give it a run. It will help us have a starting view of our site that's consistent with other working views. Peter

Massimo beat me to it but his is almost the same process I used. If you don't want the edges of the model as mine shows, after setting the Face Style to Hidden Line, edit the style to turn off edges leaving only the dimensions visible.

Highest res is 9999 px wide. Use the options button at bottom right of export dialog. Uncheck Anti Alias...it'll take forever. Export higher than you need and resample down in an image editor.

We may be getting closer - the only .skm files I can see are for textures I added. I have discovered that files that begin with a "." are invisible on Mac OS X. I have to go to the Apple store and talk to the guys at the Genius Bar. I'll let you know what I find out. Thanks for helping with this, Alan

In the mid 1990's. i had tried rhino3d and bryce. Got bored quick. While I was at Uni , I smoked alot of pot. My housemate, an arch student showed me SU. It was fun to smoke and draw. SU became a hobby, not the smoking, but the drawing.

@fakircho said: I don't really understand what the issue is? It just a disk image, of course you can keep the dmg file. You can make backups of it until your heart is content and you can save them anywhere you want. The issue is I have no idea what they are or how they work, as this is a return to a Mac for me. So, if I can hang on to this and it will work without a web connection or access to the big G, great. Thanks.

OK. Solved it. I was building the unit the wrong way. I now have referenced all the sub component sizes and positions to a set of custom values for the parent component. The custom values are the user options. It now works perfectly. Thanks for your input guys.

@steved said: Thanks Mick, just a tip I used to use autocad but I now use BRICSCAD if you have not heard of it it is just as good as AUTOCAD by Autode$k. But costs less than the annual upgrade from Autode$k about $400.00 It is just as good, to the degree That if you send a file to an Autocad user it shows as an Autocad file in native DWG, with zero learning curve. The icons are the same, it is also easier on RAM Oh and if you have a problem they will fix it within the day unlike autocad who will ignore you once you have cashed out. Good to know

Jean Thanks for that tip. That is what I love about SketchUp just when think you can't do something someone has found a way. I tried it out and that is the exact idea I was going for. Excellent tip!!! Thanks, Doug

It's as I said earlier, any object within a model or a component/group that is 'miles' from the origin [even when it's unseen] will affect the model's extents and exacerbate the 'clipping-plane' problem. That particular guide-line is ~60 kilometers [~40 miles] away from the origin
