I'm very new to graphic modelling (although I have some experience LOOKING at them, but not actually controlling them), and I have a very annoying problem.

The thing is, I download "Poseable" figures/models from the Warehouse. So by "Pose able" I think they're supposed to be able to be POSED. For example, a Storm Trooper figure should be able to be posed in a way that he's holding his gun at a different angle, etc.

But nothing works for me, for now. When I try to "Rotate" or "Move" it it treats it like it treats the whole box. NO! I want to treat the ARM? The GUN? The HEAD? NOT the box dammit!

So please help. I look forward to have fun using the program but currently am not.

      All the best,
      Lonious

        Hi, Lonious:
By the term posable figure, I think the author meant that you could use the figure to apply it in an application that allows you to rig the object. Sketchup does not have a rigging feature. That is, it was not designed for rigging, or designing armatures or bones. Blender can do that, because the entire application is designed for character animation. About the closest thing would be Sketchyphysics, which is a rudimentary mechanical motion plugin for Sketchup. Not easy to use.
As for manipulating the posable figure, you would have to get into component edit mode to affect body parts. But this is all speculation as what your intent is.

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

There only appear to be two storm troopers in the 3DW ...and only one carrying a gun. So i assume that's the one you mean. Yes, the entire figure is grouped, so unless you enter Group Edit Mode, the whole thing will rotate. Inside that group, all the limbs are sub-grouped. You need to double-click the outermost grouping in order to get down to the next level, then apply the Rotate and Move tools to those sub-groups.
