Tig Once again, thanks for saving the day.. I was also thinking the accent had something to do with the problem & have created a user account called patrick and SU automatically created a plugins folder... C:\Documents and Settings\Patrick\Application Data\SketchUp\SketchUp 2014\SketchUp\Plugins I popped my plugins in there & zoom, all is well, no more ruby console messages on startup ! Makes me think the Trimble crew might like to take a closer look at their code... What would be best, is if there were a preference item where like in other cad programs the user can define the support file paths. In the office we put our plot config files for bricscad on the server and point all instances of brics/autocad to that. Anyhow, many thanks best, Patrick

Read this http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=512726#p512726 DO NOT copy Plugins across from v2013 ! Get the newest versions - most major Plugins have been updated behind the scenes over the last few months to ensure they will work in v2014. The PluginStore etc are a great source of many hundreds of RBZ archive format plugins that you can download and then automatically Install [Preferences > Extensions] into the correct Plugins folder, without you having to find it. The SketchUcation PluginStore when run within SketchUp itself will even AutoInstall them for you, without the need to download a RBZ at all. Trimble's ExtensionWarehouse is also a source of several exclusive Extension Plugins. To find your Plugins folder use this in the Ruby Console: Sketchup.find_support_file('Plugins') On Windows it'll return something like this C:/Users/USERNAME/AppData/Roaming/SketchUp/SketchUp 2014/SketchUp/Plugins This new location removes all of the permissions issues PC users have had to endure when trying to install Plugins - it's 'yours' by default... NEVER put your own files into the SketchUp 'Tools' folder - it is exclusively for SketchUp's use... Similarly the 'ShippedExtensions' folder contains just SketchUp files/folders. Remove any of your own additions and restart SketchUp. ALL of your Plugins/Extensions belong in your own 'Plugins' folder. To make it easier to find you can always make a Shortcut to it somewhere convenient - like your Desktop... BUT using the automated installers means you might not need to access that folder very often... To reiterate - don't blindly copy old Plugins from v2013, they might not work. Get the latest versions they will almost certainly be compatible... They will be in RBZ format and easy to auto-Install... If you come across the odd Plugin which you desperately need but which is not yet v2014 compatible let the author/us know, so it can get sorted asap... You need to remove the .rb file from the Plugins folder. Add the Plugins in small batches so any startup errors are easier to track and trace... What were the Plugins you had issues with ??? C'est un forum anglais, merci d'écrire en anglais pour que tout le monde puisse comprendre. Pour ce qui est de ton problème, quel est ta version de Sketchup ? This is an english-speaking board, so please write in english so that everybody can understand. As for your issue, what's your Sketchup version ?

I suppose with yearly updates less can be expected, but, yes, I didn't see anything that had "wow" or "at last!" (sic) flavor to it. The speed improvements probably make it worth my while to go on from v.8, but I don't want to lose 1001bit tools just yet. The 3d warehouse and webgl are looking good, though that's not something I spend much time with myself. Maybe Ruby 2.0 is a big deal for developers. IDK.

No. SU2014 isn't 64bit. Plenty of discussions on that topic here.

I have posted 2 new models to the new Trimble warehouse... one three months ago and another 1 month ago. Both of them are still awaiting the Trimble auto-rendering robot to do the task of giving my models an image! We used to upload our own images and they appeared right away but no longer. Now we await an automated process to do it for us that clearly does not work!! eatc7402

If these component instances are simple 'boxes', then they could be Scaled to resize them without recourse to make_unique for the affected instance. BUT if there are details parallel to the direction of Scaling then they'll distort. If the one tread is different it is unique ?? If the straight nosing is a separate nested component instance on the front of the tread, placed within the tread component itself, then having one unique tread that has a different rise will not affected the nested nosing components... Edit any one of those nosing components... and all nosing should change to match across all tread instances. To be realistic the change to two tread components is hardly onerous BUT the approach of nesting some common parts across different componnets, and scaling 'box' shaped parts could cover most bases ?

Right, I don't think the approach you were trying with SB is going to work--unless I totally misunderstand. With 25 points you could quickly draw edges to make triangles and take it from there. With that TIN mesh you can apply sandbox "from contours" to smooth, "add detail" or use any number of other mesh manipulating plugins. I think you are using the "smoove tool"? Not what it's for. Offhand regarding editing a simple mesh: Try "select none" (this is good to set to a hot key) and then the move tool and move point by point, not surfaces. It is easier if you have "VertexTools" plugin. But you may not need to use this method at all at this point.

Hi Dave, Just to thank you so VERY much for all your help. You've been invaluable in helping me get CutList up and running in SketchUp. All the hours I've spent, and others too, only to have someone such as yourself, an expert, help. It made everything clear and now it's all systems go! I've also sent you an e-mail, with a bit more information in, follow our exchanges. I hope you receive it okay. I owe you one, Dave! Thanks a bunch. Ian :0) PS A big thank-you to SketchUcation too, for having such a portal through which to conduct this kind of problem and solutions. I'm certain I'll be back from time to time as I learn the ropes of both CutList and SketchUp. Pretty amazing tools. So cheers to the team too!

Do you like using SketchUp? I guess I would just export PNGs--you can make quite large ones if needed--and use those.

@dave r said: Look at Window>Preferences>Files and check the paths for Components and the other things there. I expect Components is probably pointing at your 2013 Components folder. You can change that and should if you'll be deleting SU2013. Well, interesting to say the least. I had always thought that it was looking in the folders under the programs folder. I see that it is looking at the Users\Me\Documents for subfolders there for the appropriate topics (i.e. materials, styles, components, and etc.) so it was pulling from my Documents subfolder and that is why it found them. Now I need to go and rethink some things because I had a folder named components where I put thinks while I was still working on them. I just need to readjust my thinking a little and rename some working files. I do like this though. Given that, I have another silly question (I know, I am full of them). When I created a style and dragged it to the "default styles folder" in the Styles pane, it is stored in that folder under the programs directory. So, if I want to create multiple styles and save them is a folder under Documents, how/where do they show up in the Styles pane (yes, I could go create one and see for myself but I thought I might as well ask)? I guess, I need to spend a little more time exploring things like this instead of trying to get the work done for my client. JUST KIDDING!! I used to teach some basic programming classes and all of this type of stuff was built into the courses. Yes, there are tutorials out there but a lot of these kind of things are not very well covered. This is why I keep posting most of my stuff through the Newbie forum. I do not feel that I have learned some basic things like this that will help me do a better job of "managing" the tool in addition to "using" the tool. Please be patient with me. I have built a bunch of components for my client but when I went to 3D print them, I found out a bunch of very fundamental things that I had messed up (and the "experienced" person who proceeded me with this client had made a bunch of the same fundamental mistakes). Enough of the whining on my part, just keep educating me

It's off to the D'oh thread for you Ken. It's an easy thing to miss, even for someone of your skill, so a good lesson for everyone.
