Gareth, it's been talked about a lot around here and migrating your plugins is not a good idea for this incarnation of sketchup. The ruby version has changed and a great many plugins needed to be updated to work with it, some still haven't been updated. Copying your plugins means you are potentially using out of date plugins that will cause you problems. It is best to start again and load them fresh therefore ensuring that you have the most up to date versions, and you can clean out those plugins that you never really use. It is very easy now with the SketchUcation plugin store, auto install what you need as you need it. Or the Extension warehouse. The few plugins from outside these places can be installed in there own way but be aware they may not yet work with 2014.

That's a good list Fredo. Many of those are on my own personal wish list as well. There certainly isn't a shortage of things to do. The hard part is figuring out where to start. :s

@tommyk said: @db11 said: To follow-up on the curation/community tagging/moderation issues and suggestions: create a group of certified super-users as 3DW editors that can verify and stamp models as 'validated': clean geometry -- no gaps, stray edges etc drawn to SU "best practices" norms optimized complexity/model size -- through components/mirroring/curve segments etc purged of excess/unused components/textures/layers etc It's quite a job to moderate the models - not sure what these super users would get out of it. That said, I do think moderation is needed - there must be a way for everyone in the community to share the job - Wikipedia manage to make it work without formal moderators. The fantastically strange and wonderful thing about the internet is that people will work for free if you give them titles and little stars to put by their name. That being said, as soon as they get those titles a lot of them tend to stop working so hard or at all... Listed, Visible Rankings of how many models uploads/downloads and how many moderated would really be interesting to see.

I emailed Trimble yesterday with the same request, Still haven't heard back from them. Tomorrow it's taking my current reseller already 1 week to send me the new code for release 2014. Their response until know: "we're waiting for them to send us the codes." Very strange and not happy about it... 8 hour trail period was already 90% gone on the first day... High hopes for tomorrow. edit: at last, on Friday I get my new codes from the reseller & Trimble a few hours later.

Dave beat me to it, but since I've type this here it is anyway SketchUp's Layers do not work like CAD's. Layers only change their objects' visibility. They do not 'freeze' the objects. So they do not stop some changes to objects on visible layers affecting connected objects on hidden layers - typically 'geometry'... If you draw a rectangle and put its face on one layer and its edges on another layer and switched off the face's layer... then you deleted a visible edge and switched back on the face's layer, you'll find that the face has gone too - because it can't exist without all of its edges. That is why you should ALWAYS create your raw geometry [lines/faces] on Layer0. Always have Layer0 as your Active-Layer. Then you make groups or components of that geometry and assign layers to those groups/component-instances. That way the Layer's visibility hides the 'container', and since there is no connected geometry spanning different layers you will not fall into that trap of assuming CAD-like layer-behavior... Drawing elements like Text and Dims can be given their own layers and switched on/off, but be aware that changes to visible entities could affect them in subtle ways too - e.g. if you erase the object to which a Dim is attached its color might have changed when you next see it [a Model Info > Dims setting for 'orphaned' dims], and moving an object might unexpectedly stretch the leader of its attached Text when its layer is next made visible... However, it IS common practice to assign separate Layers to Text and Dims to allow you to toggle their visibility on/off - there are even some plugins to automate that for you...

Thanks, Thomas, for your help and response. For some reason, I thought the Solar North was included in SU 2013 (much like some of the camera plug-ins). But my memory is getting feebler by the minute, so I'm sure your're right. I think that the idea of better integration of the EW with SketchUp is really good and it seems that the ability to truly customize SU without a bunch of features that you won't use much is forward thinking and useful. I'll go about getting the Solar North plug-in and installing it, and while I'm at it, I'll look around to see what other customization options might be available. Thanks again!!

If by turn it on manually you mean tick the box next to measurements in the list of toolbars, then it is a toolbar and will appear wherever you left it. You can slide it left to right or drag it off the status bar. If you have it sitting right side and you use the restore down button it will move to the right hand corner of the smaller window but not move back when you maximize. If it is the measurement box in the status bar that turns on and off from a right click context menu on the status bar itself then something is odd.

Michael, instead of using the Large Toolset undocked, make two new custom toolbars and dock them side by side on the left as I've shown in the screen shot. The custom toolbars will take up less space than the Large Tools set because there's no spacers between groups of tools. You can also leave out tools you don't use. I left out the Dimension, Leader Text and Walkthrough tools because I don't need them in SU. [image: 12879590815_b7381a3c5f.jpg]

fyi; Think you will have to look at % systemroot%\memory dump. If not getting dump paging file maybe set too low; c:\windows\mini dump look at with debugger. If memory not failing me the little box is set to allow ok to send data to MS OCA?? Service will need the dump files
