I've done it with Roman ruins (they might pay less than banks though): First there was the ruin and second there was the reconstruction. Though I left the ruin there and just "added" the reconstruction "on top" so that it was clear what goes where. Also one time I did this with two alternat(iv)e reconstructions on the same ruins. The very thing you should remember in these presentations not to update (thus uncheck) camera position.

Photoshop's resolution setting is in ppi (pixels per inch) -- this is an arbitrary number which has nothing to do with how many pixels are in the image. It denotes the "size" of the pixel. DPI is a term that applies to printers, the dot pitch of the tiny nozzles -- they dither a mixture of primary colors -- typically 4, but up to 8 -- to fool the eye into seeing intermediate hues. You can change the ppi in Pshop (remember to uncheck resample image) -- all this does is affect the size of the image printout. But you can over-ride the ppi setting in Pshop in the print preview diaglogue. Watch as you change the image printout size and you will see the ppi number change. The default 72 ppi or "screen resolution" in Pshop is an obsolute convention (dating from the original Macintosh small screen). If you have a screen that say measures 20 inches wide and your monitor resolution is 1920 by 1200, then you are looking at 96 pixels per inch. You can do the math for any other screen... Since most printers dither or mix dots to make a color, you generally don't want to send an image that has a ppi resolution more than 1/3 the dpi pitch of the printer -- extra information will not help the printed output. I typically print out large format images (say 40" wide) at about 100 ppi, or 4000 pixels wide and they look fine. Of course if you get real close and use a magnifying glass you can see the individual pixels and even the dots. But generally large images are meant to be seen from a distance at least great enought to see the whole image. Billboards, for example, are typically printed at 9 pixels per inch up to a maximum 36 ppi. Paul

Not to speak about the fact that quite a few of these "styles" simply do not print as they appear on the monitor... But here comes the saying: "De gustibus non est disputandum..."

Jerry, If you would like to make one I would do a SU model. Not today because I am working hard on my house and awaiting my next lesson from Modelhead on web page building. Now I know this may sound cheeky, but what I am doing is raising money for 1 this forum 2 a youth club. If I do a sketchup model I would like a donation to this forum. Now I am sure the answer will be yes. I hope you can understand where I am coming from. Just throw in a £1.00 or whatever you can afford. There is a paypal facility in the Newbie forum. And thank you for asking. We could make a few quid doing it this way. cheers, Alan

Thank you, I may do that, or as I really don't expect it to work I might just say forget it and redo the model. I still would like to know what the problem was so I don't repeat it (though I doubt it was something I did wrong). Because of that I may e-mail SketchUp support anyways to see if they can shed some light on the issue. P: DC High Heat

Yup, that's it. I knew there was a better method that what I've been doing. I've made the two forms, aligned them, and then drawn all the intersecting lines individually before I start erasing. The intersect with model bit will save all the annoying parts of the work. Thanks, P: WalterArnold

Actually, you don't have to go to the top of the outliner - just click in any white space and it will take you out to the top. Kelly

@mariocha said: Hey !!! After reading your message, I launched SU and, bing, it says a newer version is available. And, YES ! the text problem is solved ! Mac v.6.0 (6.4.120) Hmm, I have that same version and although I can set the font and size of 3D text I can't do anything with dimensional or other text; the font dialogue is simply ignored and attempting to use the context menu and the font->styles option just makes a chirp.

Bernard, Since I'm designing and not replicating, there is no image of an actual leg to provide. The curves do not need to be super accurate. The execution of the real thing is done by applying a pair of mirrored patterns to two adjacent faces of a board carefully matching their orientation to each other. The pattern on one face is then cut out using a band saw (or other saw capable of making curved cuts), and then the waste from the cut is taped back in place, and the adjacent pattern is cut out. This leaves a squared off version of the leg which is then rounded appropriately using rasps or other freehand tools. While pairs or sets of the legs need to be very similar to each other, this is not (in my case at least) a machining process which requires super accuracy. Thanks for the CTRL-Erase tool trick.

Thanks Gai, I kind of figured that would be the best way after toying a little last week. Stamping a slanted face will definitely be the easiest way. Great example, that's pretty much what I was looking for.

i had the same problem. while trying the zero offset, it kept returning to the default value. as soon as i put something more than zero it worked.
