Thanks Dave, this works great with an "Arts and Crafts" style design I did a few years ago. Thanks a bunch [image: AC1.jpg]

Yeah, it rather sound like a ruby target (although grouping and collapsing layers as well as material folders in model is a nice idea anyway - Todd has gotten the "bait" for this latter one already )

You also need to make sure that immediately before you right-click on the object and turn it into a component, that you are in Front view...and that it is squarely facing you...otherwise it will always be at an angle.

In this particular case it looks like just a noisemap, wouldn't it work to apply the texture, non-projected, to each face?

It's in the Component property box (which also pops up when you create a component). Certainly you need to carefully adjust the gluing plane prior to use this option otherwise it will just be the R/G plane afaik (I haven't tried now). See attached image. [image: zAGr_Gluetoany.png]

Thomthom, SU uses the correct units when exporting, but there is IMO a bug in the exporter, as the internal scale flags in the resulting DWG file all point to inches all the same, so unless you take care, AutoCad will import the file 25.4 times too large. I have resolved this by turning all import scaling off in AutoCad. It involves setting a small bunch of system variables, most of which can be accessed through the Units command. I never need AutoCad to scale my imports, so I have set all these to Unitless. Anssi

I found a way to import patches of terraing using a pregenerated grid in google earth, and have prepared a script to create this grid http://a4chitect.webng.com/ further info> http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=753 you will however still get 'unclean' stitches - but this is impossible to avoid since the imported terrain/imagery from ge isn't always rectangular.

As for texture mapping, the only tools SU provides are the "Position texture" and "Project texture". See details here. Note that you cannot position a texture on groups/components (unless you enter their entity by editing them) and on curved surfaces (unless you turn on hidden geometry) but only on single faces (facets in case of curved surfaces).

@edson said: eric, why step 8 (intersect with model)? Because if you do not then the points where the components intersect each other will be visible. I tried the vector push pull but got some odd results. Maybe because my curves had a large number of segments.

The 3d exchange facility allows import but no export and is at an additional cost.

Hi folks. You can also use the Text Tool. The default text is: X,Y,Z coordinates for end points; Length for lines; Area for faces; Name for components and groups (if named, otherwise "Group" will show as the default name). Just ideas.
