If the groups are solids you might not need to union them in the first place. Often, as long at the groups are solids and touching the printer will treat them as a single object. Export an stl file and see what the slicer thinks of it. If you do have to combine them, I would be inclined to just explode the groups instead of using the Union tool. Make the groups so once you have them all exploded you can make a single solid group. As for the holes, you're running into the tiny faces issue. Avoid that by working at a larger scale. When I'm modeling for 3D printing I set the Units to meters and do my modeling entering the dimensions as if inches or millimeters are meters. Then I export the .stl in meters and upload to the slicer in millimeters or inches as appropriate. Here's an example. maybe it would be better to have a setting where component tags are added into the model or not (default). that way, may components tags could be added as i build up my model. today i simply have all the tags i generally use in my components already part of my default template. however, if i have a blank template and want to incorporate those tags (and those nested in tag folders), there is no retention of the folders (i.e. tags don't know their parent tag folder) - so that would be a nice fix to add to the list. understood this is likely due to backwards compatibility, but it would be nice for those of us using the latest tools have the logic (and settings) to enable (or not) so we don't have to recreate the folders...

Some of Fredo's extensions have become 'paid'. The perpetual licenses are not costly. Clicking on one of the buttons on the dialog you showed will take you to a page with more info, and where you can buy licenses using PayPal...

Rich - thank you for re-creating and posting your file. However, it gives me the same result that I am trying to resolve. I want to drag a text label off any of the groups within the parent and that text label must display the name of the parent, not the name of the group within the parent from which the text label is anchored to. I suppose the only solution is to have an unobtrusive unnamed object, such as a guide point, within the parent to attach my text label to.

EditFlag has an issue with newer versions' stricter Ruby. I posted a fix here: http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=670883#p670883 which addresses it, but it does mean editing its RB file !

If the distance between geometry is subpixel compared to the viewport then you will encounter this behaviour in 3D. Its not unique the SketchUp. Similar to camera clipping there are limitations to what you can show and what you can see.

with a recent SU subscription licence tied to an email address (and not the discontinued classic licence w/ serial data): if resetting all devices via the Trimble AMP ("My Products > SketchUp Pro > ...") as well as logging out, closing/restarting SU, logging in fails, you may want try to delete the according SU license status file "login_session.dat" from: • Win: C;\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp 20##\SketchUp\ • Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/SketchUp20##/ ("Finder > Got To...") w/ the recent user name for "<User>" (Win) and the appropriate version numer for "20##"
