If you happened to select "Use High-Accuracy HLR" from the Print Quality settings, shadows and textures won't print, as the setting outputs only raw vector data to the printer. The result is similar to using the PDF or EPS options when exporting a 2D image. The other print quality settings should print shadows normally. Anssi

nice presentation, Coen (only found it today). didn't know about the workaround to position textures. but I think this is definitely something needed for SU7 - better texture control... @mrjumpmanv2: I always used two teams of about 10 prism tanks to destroy bases (but only after sending a spy into the enemys base, so that all my tanks are already upgraded once...)

You might be able to assign a different shortcut for the 'cancel operation' thing which would mean youd be able to put it closer to the spacebar, which is select arrow by default.

Plot: I realize there is potential for a slowdown, probably similar to that when you go to Xray mode, but when the model is "finalized for presentation" that could very well warrant having specific Scenes saved with this view mode turned on; it would certainly facilitate the print-output or when there is a need for a closeup which examines specific details. The surface appearance can change depending upon edge-length and detail, model scale, and the smoothing/softening properties of the intersecting geometry. Part of the idea for the suggestion, aside from doing the actual physical intersecting, was to eliminate tweeking smoothing and softening properties by merely superimposing non-smoothed "virtual-edges" representing the intersection. Bob: I use a similar method already. But with more "organic" or dense geometry, the method can be time consuming and not conducive to making fast changes at later date; it some cases it might involve reconstructing the original geometry (or retrieving early versions of the model). Regards, John

No, just plain SketchUp, I copied many others here. Click 'Zoom Extents' to see the whole Skippy and you'll get an idea how they work. Bob

heyheyhey ^^ Hello guys how are u today or maybe I have to say "tonight" lol because it s 2.40am here ^^ Finally i have worked on a different building coz the last one is maybe too hard to sketch.. So I created this one at this adress (download the "project2's file" in sketchup (only 800KO): http://membres.lycos.fr/playboy171/Building/ I have a problem with the roof.. I would like to create a slope on the roof ( I made the base on the roof but the "wall of the roof" are empty. And after that the glass has to be put on the roof (follow the slope) U can choose one of different building it s not a problem it's almost the same ( also I would like your point of view about the one u prefered) I'm architect and I'm making a building(library in a campus for ingeniory) like a "space ship" but first of all it must be a building lol so I have broken some wings Have a good day guys and thx for the help

Hi Keth, What Remus says (or more detailed): when you are not logged in, you can see a line "To see these forums when logged in, you need to join your custom usergroups." In order to see the woodworking subforum, go to your User Control Panel (top left of the board index if this link won't work) and join the woodworking usergroup. Please, note that you can join a bu8nch of subforums there but for some reason (it's coded into the forum software) only one at a time. And of course, welcome to the forums!

Well, Bob, some say they experience slower performance with SU6 - others say SU6 is faster. For animation some still use SU4 because there they had a (temporary) fix for the irritating shadow flickering. I started with SU5 (free) and only purchaesed the Pro license when SU6 came out so there are many pro features I cannot compare (most of these features are now included into the free version, too). But that's a different story - at the end we'll end up hijacking Tom's thread...

thanks a lot. I didnt know how to use the "Expand" command. doesnt really help me though, because I am permanently changing the model, thus adding and deleting components every other minute. but the expand-function is definitely something that needs to show up in SketchUp 7 for components created within the current file - preferably with a sort of tree structure, that enables you to easily retrace the parented component. of course thats something close to an outliner then. well, I hope they will think about that and surprise us with something increddibly useful...

anglaret, you made me think of nice idea: SketchUp often remembers things - like if you move something a certain distance; if you move it again, it will snap to that earlier distance, if you near it. wouldn't it be nice if the offset tool remembered the last selection of lines it was used with and highlight them as soon as you hover over one of the lines (the originally selected ones or the newly created ones, depending on where your cursor hovers). another really cool thing would be to be able to create repetitive offsets by typing in 3 * for example (or the other way arround: 3 / ), just after creating the offset (I thought it was possible. but by trying I just discovered it is not - would be so handy though )

Hi Dave, In the vieo driver settings you should set AA to be controlled by the application (i.e. by SU in this case). However OpenGL settings will only affect the screen appearance of the model what's more, the lower AA settings you choose from the OpenGL settings in SU, the better performance you may achieve with bigger models (although as a woodworker, you may not have extremely big and complex models like a landscape designer with lots of 3D trees for instance). The 2D raster export is not controlled by the OpenGL settings but by SU itself. When exporting, you should be able to set AA in the options dialogue. If this does not work however, there must be a problem. a workaround may be what Alan (Fraser) does in practice; export with a higher (say double) resolution and scale your image down in PS (or equivalent) using AA settings there. Actually he prefers this way of exporting / post-processing to straight SU+AA export. However if you export at 3000 pixels already, exporting at 6000 may be a bit too much.

I'm afraid there's no way you can turn inference off. You can set (turn off) length and degree snapping in the preferences but that won't turn off inference to axes and geometry in general.

@julius said: NEW! Target: Path allows you to select a target path.[/u] <---so basically you pay the 7$ only for this. you are right. but unfortunately this is exactly what I need. honestly. a camera-aim path gives you a great deal of control over the sequence. only difficulty is to properly synchronise the two paths to achieve the desired change of focus at the right time. after a lot of trial and error I found out, that you best create two cubic bezier curves (fredo6's bezier tool plugin) with exactly the same number of control points. thus you can exactly see which point of the camera-aim path is connected to a certain point on the camera path... flightpath2 askes you for a speed (like 14 m per second). a scene is created at every vertex of the camera path and the transition times are set individually to retain the desired speed. however, I find it more useful, if all the scene transition times are the same - thus the number of vertexes on the path defines the speed (many vertexes, slow speed; few vertexes, high speed). unfortunately you need another script for resetting all the transition times back to default. you can get this script along with flightpath2 with the "presentation bundle2" for 16$ it is a bit unnecessary, if you are comfortable enough with the free versions. but you definitely have total control over your animation.

Hi Yaakov, It is very important to set the gluing plane correctly. To do this, when createing a component, there is an option to set the axes. When it's a "glue-to" component, there won't be a z axis for it (just a blue cross) but setting the red and then green axes correctly on the plane you want to cut the opening is essential. As a quick workaround to make life easier, I usually start making my glue-to/cut-hole components on a single, vertical plane (using it as a drawing board) and in this case the gluing plane tends to be created on this plane and I don't have to manually set it.
