Nice model and thanks for sharing. I don't think anyone will notice if it's not exact dimensionally.

You know...? I do KNOW that... I think my brain went on vacation. Thanks for stating the "usually" obvious! Good grief...

sometimes that has something to do with layers. did you get a whole bunch of layers, when you imported? if yes, some of them may be hidden. the easiest way to get your model a bit more clearly arranged is to select them all (except layer0) and delete them. SketchUp will ask you, if you want to move the contents to the default layer (layer0). Confirm. perhaps that was the only problem...

@adam56 said: .HELLO, As a Structural Standing Seam panel, Vertical Seam delivers a clean, linear elegance paired with unmatched quality for a dependable, long-lasting, and beautiful roof. Structural Standing Seam roof systems are ideal for lower sloping and longer spanning roofs, or where extreme temperature variations exist. Is this an ad for metal roofs?

That was the culprit! I always export large and resample down because I don't like the SU AA, but I'd never turned it off.

thanks everyone...all your ideas really help. I too use "zoom in" really close to help with placing things exactly where i want with less snaping in some cases.

Drag and drop is the way to go. However, SU doesn't like being partly minimised in order to do that...it tends to send the toolbars all over the place. If you want to avoid that happening, simply import the image file...but not as a texture; import it as an image then explode it. Whenever you choose an image format for import you get a set of radio buttons on the right of the dialog box which enable you to choose the manner of import. In fact I hardly ever import an image as a texture, even when that is how I intend to use it.

I can't figure out why this thread is in the Podium forum so I'm moving it to the main SU Discussions if you don't mind...

you can create a material from any jpeg using the create material button found on the materials pallet (looks like a little striped box with a plus sign) images can be found all over the net just search for textures (most of these are for rendering software but the tiling and such are the same)

oh yes, that would be great. because at the moment SketchUp is limited to small, single designs (surely partly because it has difficulties coping with large models). enabling it to support real teamwork would be such a wonderful thing. and you know what would be funny (not reasonable - but real fun)? if you had realtime teamwork. for example you have one location. three people are drawing at different buildings, everyone sitting at his own computer. and on the huge flatscreen in the lobby you see an overall perspective where the buildings are permanently manipulated... (would probably bust your network in no time and you needed a giant computer to render the realtime shadows. but it would be such a cool poser thing!)

There is FlightPath (free) and its commercial, more advanced sister, Fight Path2 or even (the also commercial) PresentationBundle that can do that and even much more (more exactly you can set the path prior to the scenes and allow your camera to move along).

It would depend on many many factors including the model, components used and performance of the machine doing the rendering. Probably the best way to see if your machine is up to the task is to try to render one of the more popular but simple models from the 3D libary and see how fast it goes..

Well, I'm back home and discovered that I have the Wakl and Look around tools in my SU Viewer. They are part of the camera toolbar (View menu > Toolbars). See attached file. [image: Ii7R_SUViewer.jpg]

I just tried it with a still locked terrain - it worked perfectly fine. but Gaieus is right. try it with an unlocked one. perhaps that works.
