I've never compared them Tom, but the PS resampling always been good enough for what I need. I'm not too picky about the degree of resampling either...probably just a philistine. Paul Miller swears by a particular ratio of reduction, but I can't remember what it is...probably exporting from SU at 1/2 up or double what you need as a final result.

Yes, just go to Import and choose the correct image format. You may have trouble with the area surrounding it unless it's a rectangular logo...colour matching, I mean. Possibly the best way is to make it a transparent png file and hover it a minute amount just above the surface. Alternately, you can make it a jpg but paint the surrounding area the colour of your model at that point. In order to avoid a rectangular colour mismatch at the borders of the jpg, make another small jpg that is just the exact same surrounding colour and use that to paint onto the remainder of that natural area in the model...instead of using a simple SU colour. Another alternative (if it is a simple graphic) is to import it, trace around it, get the face(s) to fill-in, then push/pull it into a 3D logo. You can then shove it into the surface of the object like a cookie cutter and intersect with model to "print" the logo in geometry on the side of your model. Colour it in the usual way, then hide the edges when you are done.

The attached file will give you some ideas. Just click on the scene tabs at the top to walk through it. For more complicated wraparound designs you will need to use the " cookie cutter" to intersect the pole from more than one direction....alignment might be tricky For info on how to wrap an image around a cylinder, check out the Help files and training videos. Note...you can't wrap an image around anything more complicated than a regular cylinder/curved surface; if it tapers vertically, you've got problems. pole_logo.skp [image: Hg5f_pole_logo.jpg]

Right click the V-Ray light Select V-Ray for sketchup -> Edit Light In the Option group tick Invisible If you wan't to see the V-Ray light when you render you have to turn of the default lights so they don't cast a shadow from your light.

Hi folks. Personnaly, I would simply: 1 - Make the component from one of the group. 2 - Copy it, using the groups to help in positionning, rotating, etc. 3 - Delete the groups. Just ideas.

Hi folks. With scaling, everything in the component will be scaled. If the change in frame size bother you, you can use the Move Tool. For example, if you want to increase the heigth and the width of a window but keep the framing the same size as the original, go in component edit mode, select the top frame and move it up. After that, select the right frame and move it right. The other lines attached to the selection, will stretch automatically. Of course, you may select the bottom frame and move it down or the left frame and move it left. If the component is made of subcomponents, you may have to dig deeper into these to edit them one by one. Just ideas.

Im not sure if its the case wit this board, but with a lot of logins you need to make sure that youve got cookies enabled in your browser, and possibly on any fiewall software youve got.

I always keep my Styles dialogue in my window and mainly to access this feature (and sometimes profiles as well).

Hi guys, Sorry for the late reply! I've read Ross Macintosh's explanation and that's probably why sketchup is behaving like this. Funny thing is that changing the Shadow orientation fixes the issue (at least for the orientation that I choose). As for the image that I wanted, I exported it as two files, one with shadows and another without them. Opened the last one in photopaint and paste the "shadow image" as a layer (multiply). It did the trick. Thanks for your help

I recently had one of these cards placed in my works workstation and had so much trouble with SU. I tried various things to cure it but gave up and put my old card back in. I now have a nice GPU sat in my bottom draw! Maybe I will put it back and give it another go with what worked for you.

@gidon yuval said: Hi Philip, I'm glad you found it useful. As for the 3-D figure, on the board index you will see a heading called "Components, Materials & Styles". Search there and you'll find quite a number of 3-D figures that are generously offered by some of the SU masters who (unlike me) are able to create them. This is undoubtedly one of the most generous forums on the web. G'day Gidon Thanks again, am on my way
