Thanks. @unknownuser said: only 9850 faces! Yeah, the poly count is a bit disgusting, but it looks good when rendered, anyway...

I got it to work . What I did was select and copy one plant from the pool project and paste it into a new blank sketchup window. The edit functions somehow work normally in this new file and I selected always face camera etc. I copied the altered plant back into the project and all the plants then became editable within the original file. Strange but it works

The whole point of pre-emptive multitasking is you can do what the hell you like and the system will ensure everything gets a fair crack of the whip - including the window system. Thats how every system apart from MS Windows works where you have to jump through hoops to allow users to continue to be able to use the UI and not freeze up. Its a bit sad. Adam

Ahha. That's the problem then! Noet that SU files (kmz files for GE) neverimmediately and automatically become parts of the default GE 3D Layer. There is a quality control first of all (and considering the amount of the uploaded models it can take a while for the QA Engineers to go through them) then the layers are only updated from time to time, not constantly.

Dear Ken, I came across this freeware when looking for screen capture programs. http://www.etrusoft.com/ Perhaps it could be used with your notes script to create illustrated documents. I haven't tried it myself and so I cannot make a recommendation. It does allow one to annotate the image after capture, which is likely to prove useful. Kind regards, Bob

i stuggle with this as well. I do a lot of site modeling that requires trees and I like to use 2D cllips as often possible, but for aerial views, I kinda need 3D trees, and the good ones are so High poly. I guess I should play around with Proxies more to simplify and only turn on the biggies when it comes time to render or something, but Any other hints to manage the file would be grateful. Ps. I havne't done it yet, but I have the link to the 3D basecamp workshop on this. I oughtta listen to it. . .. I wasn't invited, you know. . .

I don't use other 3d apps too much, so if there is way to clean up SU models, that could be cool. But I think its a common problem where one program that works one way will always export a little bit less than perfect to another program. CAD to SU is another example. It works, but it takes some cleanup in CAD and SU. There are definitely examples of people doing very high poly stuff in SU, then texturing it in SU (I think) and exporting it succesfully to a renderer and getting inredible results. So I wouldn't call it completely useless. But I think it does get a little bit clunky, because of the way faces are turned into triangulated geometry. But for sure there are people who know a lot more aboutt he technical details of this than I do.... Chris

I am no authority on boats, hulls, kayaks, canoes, etc But here is another basic "lil boat" shape if you need, using the above technique. [image: lilboatzt6.jpg] lil boat.skp

Hi Remus, hi folks. Good trick about selecting the two faces. Using symmetrical scaling do the trick and you can type an exact value in the VCB. Thanks.

Did you ever get this resolved? We have not observed issues with MacBook Pros, only older MacBooks. Please let us know if this got resoved (sorry - I normally spend time in LayOut forums, not so much SketchUp). Barry Google

@unknownuser said: At a total guess, it just has the flavor of one of those times you find you're doing something silly.. Check your Model Info preferences and Snap distances. Sure 'nuf Being a noob sucks. Found the problem. Mainly, not exploring the full command list. Found it in the "model info" under "units". Now I understand. It probably came from the snap setting and or the precision setting. Not only that, but I had previously "scaled" the model to stretch it, not realizing the individual "part" thickness scaled as well. I "pushed" back the face to what it was "supposed to be", but somehow the precision or snap setting rounded off inaccurately...or something to that effect. I then went on to use one of these "parts" to build another model(the one I posted)copying and push/pulling the size of the parts. The error probably just kept compounding throughout. Oh well, live and learn. Thanks for your replys. fitZ

One caution to using high segment counts for arcs and circles. You can very rapidly bloat the file size and degrade computer performance that way. Keep in mind that once you've made a change in the segment count for the model, it will remain at that setting. While you might want a high segment count for the edge of a table or counter top, you probably won't for a bullnose or other rounded profile. If the curve is small, you won't notice that it is made of a small number of segments. You probably won't need to set the segment count anywhere close to 1000 for the appearance of a smooth curve. Maybe around 100 would be plenty.
