BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

I don't know if the Omega drivers will solve the problem, however in the past when I had ATi GFX cards I only used the Omega Drivers, they're good and help to speed things up a little.

Cinema 4D is a great program that can not only animate quite well, it can also render well too. It is a bit like max but I find it far easier to learn. I have not used it in a while (just have not needed it) but I would say it will work for what you are looking for and give far better results than any of the other recommendations. Granted it is a bit of change but I think in the long run it will be the right choice. Scott

It sounds like the lines arent intersecting with the floor, although i could be wrong. To fix this, select all the lines, right click->intersect->with model. If that doesnt work could you psot a pic of the problem? it can be useful in sorting this sort of thing out

I´ve had that issue on a macbook. No need to disable hardware acceleration, which makes things slooooow. Just disable fast feedback and your problem should disappear. cheers s

Is there a limit on how big SU can export (on any computer) then? Because surely as a 32 bit app it can only address a small bit of memory?

Yes, as Jacob says, the trick is to do a cut and then group, then cut within group. Takes several steps to do this. I think a ruby script could perhaps be done: cut section specify depth of section via vcb or picking, done!

Have you ever tried to uninstall and clean all files dedicated to SU and reinstall? Also if you are not using the latest version, maybe updating helps. If you can not fix it, go on windows version.

Import image to be projected (or apply the texture you want to project on to a flat surface.) Explode the image (if imported), right click it->texture->projected. Select the paint bucket tool, hold the alt key (changes it to a sampling tool) sample the texture and apply it to your curved face.
