BlenderGIS can get you pretty good images.. you do need an API key to get set up but it's all free and you can even generate 3d geometry based on the elevations in the satellite images.. it tiles in blender so you the more you zoom the better the image quality to a point.

Hey Mike, I'm sure you figured this out already, but when you first create the attribute type a number with the inch mark like 0" or 0' in the value box and hit enter. This will set the unit for that attribute to inches. This only works for the first time a value is entered. After that first initial value, you will need to use the attribute info dialog to make changes. In addition, you can use 0 to set it to text (not "Default: Text") and 0cm to set it to centimeters. If anyone knows a shortcut for setting the unit to Decimal Number, I would love to hear it!

IRC is Internet Relay Chat. Like the forums, but a bit more real time. The link is for the Wikipedia page on IRC. Its an interesting read Will. It also cast some light on my ignorance Could you bullet list the main advantages of such a system of communication? Mike Compared to the forums? Well, there is one main advantage: How quickly you get a response. We are talking about near real time. That might or might not happen here. Also, I used to use the forums at space.com. Those are long gone. But the space channel at Freenode has been there for 8 years and and still going strong.

@frederik said: I wonder if Jason Maranto decided to upgrade or just leave it... I haven't changed my POV -- I still have 8 Pro and use it occasionally, but I will not pay for any more SketchUp until there is something released which is worth paying for. That said, since nothing is new with me, and I've already said my bit on the SketchUp 9 subject, I've refrained from posting until such a time as new news is forthcoming from Trimble. In the meantime I've been focusing on other software. Best, Jason.

Well, a car might be smooth, yet technically hard... but a pillow may be soft and not hard yet still smooth... Too literal?

Downloaded it and couldn't find any problems. Some suggested corrections/changes: the meeting rail on the upper and lower sashes should align (on a traditional window, the are narrower than the other stiles and rails. Likewise on traditional windows the bottom rail on the bottom sash is wider than the others. But I noticed on most vinyl windows this isn't the case.) Create a generic color such as "window frame" for the frame and sashes so people can simply edit it to get the desired color, without having to repaint the components. Likewise with the window glass.

@dave r said: No. It didn't become a Pro only feature. It is part of the Utilities Tools which, although no longer packed with SketchUp is available from the Extension Warehouse. You just have to go get it. Thanks. That helped.

@hieru said: Kaas, I think you would still get good results using your approach if you further reduced the number of circle and bevel segments. The trick here is to use just enough segments and make sure that the block doesn't intersect with the tube along segment edges. Hieru, Thanks for your reply and the trick you mention. I'm going to test it soon.

I sent you a PM so take a look at that. I expect on the wedge in my model you aren't clicking on a component when you move it. Instead of trying to tilt the component into position, draw it in place at the correct angle. I can show you that. As for making it easy to measure from it, when adjust the component axes correctly you'll be able to drag a copy out from the In Model components library and it'll sit flat on the ground plane.

There's already a ton of power there for controlling visibility. You can associate the parent component with one layer and the child components with other layers. This gives you all sorts of options for controlling what is visible and what isn't.

Nope, not a bug. Here's another example. I just softened the edges on the cubes but on the right I first made offsets on the three visible faces. After softening the cube edges, I hid the offset lines and you can see how that affects shading. [image: 84MB_shading.png]

Hi bpjmarriott1993, Small adjustment to the board is required. You have to add some unified triangles to finish off. See attachment. [image: xNxc_20130715-SUF-Stairs.jpg] 20130715-SUF-BeginnerStairs.skp

Thank you jorlan and Pilou. As an illustration of the task I'm trying to optimize see attached image. Resulting image was made by manually placing copy of the circle on the rectangular face. I'm hoping there is a plugin/ruby script to calculate/place maximum possible number of shapes (in this case circles) on given face. Thank you for your time. [image: krNd_shapesonface1.jpg]

I guess we can try a competition or two to further gauge interest. I'll start one up on Monday. Boo, have any ideas for a topic?
