Hey guys I am desperate for very high resolution/quality satellite maps, I use Placemaker and I also use Nearmap but the resolution is not that great, I have tried using AI to upscale but that too does not really solve my issues. Is there another solution?

Hi Box thanks so much! I had breakthrough, what I was doing was trying to modify your model for practice and was drawing lines in "free air" such a newbie mistake . Then I realised that starting with a box and modifying faces and edges is the way to go. Have attached a rough render. Need to work out how to do seems, tufts and other real world imperfections as well as getting around materials. [image: hne1_Roughchair3.png]

I use DIBAC for laying out my walls in plan (2D). What is attractive about DIBAC is that it is very fast for editing layouts before the walls are lifted up, either with its own internal tools, or simply with the push pull tool itself. To be able to edit quickly in plan is the key - as I imagine you can agree. DIBAC allows me to do so. Good luck.

Thank you. I figured it out, I guess. Simple really. If I select a component in the list, which seems like the normal thing to do,and right-click the "delete" function is grayed out. But for all the non-selected items on the list it is there to use. This is not very clear at first for, if I don't click on it, the component is not identified, except by where I hover the mouse (even the warning doesn't name the component). I guess I just hate the component window, and will not worry about what's in it or not, and go on avoiding it.

I tried that but it doesn't appear to do anything in the 2018 version of sketchup. (EDIT) It also doesn't include groups (only components)

I just tested it with a model made in SU2016. It worked just fine for me. After saving the file and quitting SketchUp, I reopened it and the info was still present.

Okay, here's a new model. I was having issues with it yesterday that caused me to finally reach out and bother you. I spent the last couple of hours working with no issues, but finally ran into some. Like I said, this does not seem to be specific to any model, nor is is consistent within any model. I was finally able to replicate the issue and noticed that it does seem to happen when I am trying to move copy a single line from an edge within a face. I'm not sure now that you will be able to see anything as it took me a couple of hours to recreate, whitecoat syndrome I guess... I use alt because it is the same as the option key on my computer. With the variation of hardware and software there is no way any program will have 100% success. There will always be combinations that fail. Add to that different folks making personalisations in any number of settings and I am surprised the results are as good as they are.

@fleawig said: Thanks, that's very helpful. Perhaps if I do the whole intersection operation at a larger scale, then scale down the results at the end--that could work? I'll try it out. (As well as your other suggestions.) That's a good idea, but still the segments have to be greater [in number]. Importing a larger file MIGHT give you better curves, but the dome likely has to have more facets and scaling one up alone won't do that. It may be a good idea to do the trimming at a larger scale because SketchUp has difficulty creating very small faces. It's OK however to scale down larger faces once created.

@paolo said: Dave thank you for your reply, I understand your facts but that doesn't mean that I and many others which have been using SU for many years are wrong to be deeply disappointed... I understand that you are disappointed but it doesn't change the facts. Google removed access to their Maps API so versions of SketchUp that used Google Maps for Geo-Location no longer have anything to access. @paolo said: Don't want to be rude but by the way how much will it cost to follow your suggestions for such a basic feature (probably you don't need it if doing "woodworking"). You'll need to check with the Placemaker folks. The extension doesn't come for free and neither does the high res imagery they offer. Digital Globe doesn't supply their data for free. I expect their employees insist on getting paid for their work and the required infrastructure doesn't come out of thin air. You're right. I don't need that sort of stuff for most woodworking projects but I do a lot more with SketchUp than just woodworking projects. If I need high res location imagery I'll use Placemaker, though. Their imagery for most areas is better than Google's offering was anyhow. @paolo said: Perhaps is time to learn Blender or why not Rhino. I think it's a good idea to keep learning. Helps to keep senility at bay. What do Blender and Rhino use for geo-location data?

Yes, it's odd. I did find there is a Utilities plug in that includes create face and a query tool. The query tool seems to get it correct. I don't think you can capture the data and label the drawing with it, but it does display the xyz coordinates. We didn't get much interest in this topic. I would have thought many would have a problem finding locations in space. Pat

Thanks, I don't know why I was getting an error with them then. However, I found my 2018 license details in my junk mail, so in switching to 2018, it's all fine again.

This already solved in your post on the SketchUp Community Forum but for others who come along, Follow Me by itself won't yield the results you're after. You should start with a circular path and scale the bottom to an ellipse. [image: YoMO_Screenshot-1_17_20189_59_23AM.png]
