Hi Guys, m trying to create a hull from my imagination, means not from given contours. Boat contour plans are actually a projection to the standard orthogonal planes, , these are sections through the hull, which would not be applicable for this intuitive process. I have a certain spatial curve in the mind, which I´d like to draw in SU. So I created contour lines f.e. as a bezier curve. But, the curves are always related to a plane. It is anyway difficult to intuitively draw a spatial curve. Now m looking for a way how to create a spatial contour from two related planar contours. I guess it sounds a bit confusing. Does anybody have a solution for this ? Thanks for responding !

You could also try a program called Sculptris http://pixologic.com/sculptris/ It's a separate program from SketchUp, and only exports in OBJ format, but if you get TIG's OBJ Importer, you can bring whatever you sculpt there over to SU, provided you don't make it too high poly. I recently sculpted a rock formation that a structure was supposed to sit on and was very surprised I was able to bring it over to SU because it was higher poly then I thought would work. Also, if you have problems importing using OBJ, you can try using Blender to convert the OBJs to DAE, which sometimes works better for certain models.

Can you post a screen grab of what you were able to achieve and we can help from there.

IDK just how he did the grooves, but you could for example, just use two edgs in a "v" set to a facet in the circle, then copy/rotate all around.

It is possible - see the screen-shot. I moved the red-axis line so it was easier to pick, and relocated the curve so that its start aligned with the line's start along the green-axis. The initial offering was a mess because the start/end clash, BUT using the down-arrow toggled that and the bent form looks OK to me ? It's also usually a good idea to make the line and the curve the same length - your curve is ~2.2m shorter, using Entity Info... [image: EvcH_Capture.PNG]

RoundCorner DOES work but has trouble with some of the geometry of this shape. Actually I ran the plugin FIRST on the whole shape then saw that it really messed up some parts. so I then trimmed out the best quadrant and cleaned just that one up to save time. I am not sure what it would take, but observe the original geometry at the corners, edges don't line up nicely, and perhaps there is some method there that would make RoundCorner run smoothly. That said, wherever you can work on one instance (and duplicate after) you save trouble. Followme wouldn't do it for me. @kervs said: @pbacot said: Hi, You did not say what sort of rounded edge you wanted, how big, how smooth. The way I found sort of worked is with RoundCorner plugin, but it caused a number of messes in the construction. So I picked the quandrant with the fewest errors and repaired the errors, then mirrored. You'd probably want to join them again at some point. Hi Pbacot. Thanks! I actually was struggling with it for 1/2 a day and then attempted the same as you BUT nowhere as beautifully done as yours. Let me get this right, you split the object to 4 and used round corners and tided for 2 them flipped it?? Auugghhh, didnt think about that solution. What i did in the end was cheat, since it was the first time i messed with polygons i made an absolute mess of it. I was 'cleanup' to make sure all was fine then SELECTED all right click and smoothed it. OMG this took so long to learn! thanks so much! Kervs

I know this is a really old thread but I was wondering if Solo or another sketchup guru has any videos on organic modeling of animals or cartoon characters... Most of the pictures are gone from this thread and I would like to learn how best to start an object... Specifically, I want to model a whale! Thanks! Stuart Edit: I think I get how to do it. I bought vertex tools (amazing) and using artisan, I just have to push pull and PRACTICE! Quick whale test, long ways to go... s [image: H2zr_bluewhaleraft.jpg]

Check out Fredo's tools like Joint Push Pull of 'extrusions' or CurviLoft making a surface from different faces etc - they are available form the SCF PluginStore [note that you also need to install his Lib] Restart SketchUp after the installation of the RBZ archives... http://sketchucation.com/pluginstore?listtype=2%26amp;author=1053%26amp;category=0

Thanks! Pilou, i have tried that, but on two complex models, these generator lines will never be the same just by measure by eye, and than the two surfaces (of the smaller and the larger) will intersect and make a hole in my model. Elisei! That is a great tool, wasn't familiar with it! Looks exactly what I need! I'll try it tonight!!! I greatly appreciate your support!! Txs Gabor

You might want to try going back to the contours before sandbox and hit them with Curvizard. This lets you cleanup and simplify the contours which can reduce the files size enormously, without losing too much detail.
