What is the end use for the model? I think that makes a big difference in how doable the project is. To me it seems that you should do every little ornament and flourish as a separate object and the apply those to the basic furniture shape. To build as one integrated object would be difficult. But one little form at a time and I think you could do it. The time line is something else. I think it would take me weeks. What it comes down to the end use. As just a render you could get very close and then polish the details in photoshop. If you needed a perfect physical 3D model there would be a lot more problems. And in a render would it be a close up or just part of a furnished room. I think its is more a question of practicality than possibility. Take a look at the surface of the cannon that I modeled: http://forums.sketchucation.com/download/file.php?id=45929 Also go through the whole topic at: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=26545&hilit=cannon+nelson#p228800 to understand what a pain it was. And by all means please tell me the end use for the project as I am very curious.

Finally had some time to get into this and here is what I have come up with. The tire is too small in width but I can change that. Any comments and tips would be welcome. Larry NewWheelPant.zip

@jet said: Thanks a lot Jim! You're welcome. I was reminded of another way that might work to create the relief - if you can create a greyscale image of the relief then you might be able to use ThomThom's Bitmap 2 Mesh plugin. Click on the link to view the example. http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=323&t=31339&start=15#p276160

Thanks for the compliment and practical advice. I'll definitely correct the shell material in future renders. To be honest I didn't pay attention to the actual chair and selected a glossy finish to help the shell stand out against the background. Modelling the accompanying ottoman is on my to-do list

Wow! Thank you all for your replies and comments! @Pilou, oganocali, Rich O'Brien: Thank you very much, these resources are spot on. The only thing is I need to take some quality time to read AND understand them... @solo: Well I have tried this and it looks good but I can't seem to import my textured rock back in Sketchup using Whaat UV Tools... Edit: I can't even paint in Sculptris today... If I understand this, I have 2 options to texture this rock: paint it myself or apply a ready-made texture. In that other case, I'll have to map it and stretched areas in my geometry will be... stretched

You can obtain the details by some bump or displacement as you have the new calculated texture ! Here I have decreased twice from the maximum [image: HLTV_photosculpt.jpg]
